Going to Athens in January, and traveling to mykonos, and santorini as well. Many of the travel sites say to take a plane because the ferries do not post their travel schedules for the winter months. Any suggestions?

I was in Greece until yesterday. Take the plane to and from Athens. The island flights are easy, 20-25 minute hops on Aegean. The slow ferry, on the other hand, can make for a long day of travel, and I don't know that the fast ferry makes those routes then.

The time I went to Athens was actually in January. It was a good time but you could tell that it was the off season for sure. I didn't go to the islands. They would've been nice I'm sure, but everyone I talked to said they practically shut down in the winter.

As Erato stated, fly from Athens.

Also fly Aegean over Olympic. Your life isn't worth the $20 difference in air fare.

I was in Athens in late January earlier this year. The weather can surprisingly get quite cold and wintery. I enjoyed being there in the down season though. Admission prices to attractions are cheaper and the traditionally touristy areas are instead buzzing with locals.

I've also flown Aegean to Santorini and it was great.

Much easier to take US 78. It's about an hour and 20 minutes or so.
