Any experience with Viking Cruises?
Posted by cbi8 on 10/10/16 at 8:30 pm10
Just booked my honeymoon with Viking Cruises. The future wife and I will be going on the Rhine Getaway
It's an 8 day cruise that goes to the following places:
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Kinderdijk, The Netherlands
Cologne, Germany
Koblenz, Germany
Heidelberg, Germany
Strasbourg, France
Breisach, Germany
Basel, Switzerland
Anybody have any experience with this cruise line/these stops? Any recommendations/tips?
Thanks!

I've been to all the stops except the first two, you'll enjoy the trip. Strasbourg is the highlight (to me) of the ones I've visited, Basel is nice too. I've been on the Rhine on day cruises and it's got some nice views.
I've known several couples who've gone on Viking Cruises and all of them have enjoyed it. I would think you did well booking that for a Honeymoon, from what I've heard there's little-to no riff-raff on those vessels and the fare is good. I'd go on all the possible land tours they offer, you'll still have a lot of time on the tour vessel.
Congrats on the impending wedding and have fun.

I've never done a viking cruise, but have been to all of the cities - all are nice, and we visit a few of them several times a year.
The stretch between Koblenz and Heidelberg is called the "Romantic Rhein". It is a beautiful area (depending on the season). We've done day tours in that area a few times.

I'll be purchasing a GoPro for this trip so I can document everything.
We won't be going until early November 2017, though.

This is on my bucket list. We had a Baltic scheduled but canceled it and booked an Alaskan cruise with friends instead. When we do finally bite the bullet and plan for Europe we will have to decide between a Baltic cruise with a stay in London or the more expensive Viking Cruise but perhaps less of a stay in London since we will see more of the interior of Europe. Hard decision.
