AirBnB (specifically Europe)- Convince me I won't get sold into white slavery...

I'm a skeptical country boy, i live next to a bayou, and i don't like taking chances... That being said, it looks like there's some cool AirBnB places that we could stay for an upcoming vacation. One that looks really cool has no reviews. I assume as soon as i book that i'm on the list... Convince me that these places aren't set up with hidden cameras and/or the Albanians won't be coming after me...
I would prefer this not take place:
And i don't know this guy:

I've stayed in countless airbnbs's in eurooe with no issues. But....I wouldn't stay in one with no reviews. I generally won't stay in one with less than about 20 reviews. Even then, if all the reviews were over a short period of time.....Say less than 3 months, I would pass.

The host has two other properties, both with 50+ reviews over the past several years. Still pass?
ETA: ok, scratch this one, i won't stay anywhere with no reviews (or even just a few).

As Zappa said, AirBnBs are fine in Europe and I've stayed in several, however, let someone else be the guinea pig. With no reviews you just have no idea what you're walking into. I wouldn't personally take that kind of chance on a vacation overseas.

Stayed at several on a recent trip, no issues, much better value than hotels over there IMO. Like others have said, read the reviews before you book and do a little research on the area you want to stay in.

I'm literally staying in one right now. Look for one offered by a super host, with all 5-star reviews. It's a bit annoying to pay in advance, but the kitchen, washer/dryer, etc make up for that.

AirBnB is great. It's hard to beat the value in most places and you'll usually get a lot more than a hotel and better location. I'm skeptical as hell on most things. I definitely wouldn't pick one with no reviews. Take a little time and read many of the reviews. You should be able to get a good feel that way.

Every European AirBNB I have stayed in has been as good an experience if not better than anything in the US.
With that said, I would be very hesitant about staying in one with no reviews.

I found a lot of them were run by property management companies, pretty easy to pick out. I wouldn't worry about using them as much at all, I wouldn't use a single person without 10+ reviews.
As said, in the big cities having a small kitchen, a washer/dryer, bigger space, and sometimes better location makes it worth it imo.

I've never used AirBnB overseas, but I've used it (and HomeAway/VRBO) quite a bit stateside and have had nothing but great experiences. For my money, it's a much better experience than a hotel, especially if you have a large group.
I wouldn't stay in one with no reviews, however.

Used it once in Europe with no issue, host was extremely friendly and recommend Ed a few non-touristy things to do

All I do is AirBnb for travel now. It's too good a deal to pass up.
I stayed in one in Peru with no reviews and she was probably the most helpful host I've had.
I inquired about the no reviews and she was quick to dispel any reservations I had. Just make sure you talk to them to get a good idea of how they are.
That being said, the more the reviews the better. Airbnb has pretty good security measures in place though to make sure you aren't getting screwed.
There's a reason they've soared to a $30 billion company almost overnight.

How do you deal with towels in an Airbnb? In a hotel they'll replenish them daily? Is there usually an extra supply?

Ask the host, many host also offer a laundry service that is a hell of a lot cheaper than any hotel.

no worries on this, i've found places with washers and dryers.
new question... the second place i'm booking in Venice is requiring ID verification which is asking for a photo of my drivers license or passport or i can fill out a form on airbnb with some personal information. Note, this is though the airbnb website, not something the host is sending me but it still makes me feel uneasy. Is this legit?

Have you never used Airbnb before you mean? Like the form when you are first registering?
Yes, the form is legit. They want to make sure you are who you say you are. So you can't cancel, and if you trash their place they know, your reviews are legit, etc.

I've never used Airbnb before. And the first place i booked didn't require it. Then the second place did.
No worries, three places booked, all with a lot of reviews as noted in this thread. $1100 for 8 nights as compared to over $2500 if I had went with similarly located hotels.
