Anyone have suggestions of a hotel to stay in that is affordable, yet not in the middle of the ghetto?

Stayed at the Drury Inn last summer. It is within walking distance of everything downtown( ball park, arch, etc.) and not terribly expensive.

Off of Washington there is a Embassy Suites, Marriott, Courtyard, I think a Hampton Inn, and others. Price is probably going to depend on when you are going. But that area is not bad and a lot of places you can walk to for drinks and or dinner.

Stayed at that Embassy 2 years ago. Nice hotel and walking distance to tourist stuff downtown. Embassy happy hour is always a plus

I regularly stay at the Courtyard Downtown/Convention Center. It is fine and convient. I will say that the Four Seasons will occasionally have a rate that makes me consider not staying at a Marriott. The bar is nice even if not staying there.
