Visiting an old buddy from high school that I'll be staying with for a week. Would like to visit a park and do some hiking. Any recommendations on good trails and peaks that can be done in a day ? Something that could be hiked one way from bottom to summit in at of under 5 hours would be ideal.

This would be 4th of July week. Should I expect large crowds?

Where are you staying? You can do an easy 14er in a half day. Go to 14ers.com and hunt around.

Yes, it will be crowded the week of July 4.

Rocky Mountain National Park has a lot of nice trails but maybe try south of there in the Indian Peaks wilderness where it is less crowded. Don't rush into a fourteener right away or the altitude will kick your arse. Acclimate for a few days before you try a peak. Mt. Audubon is a good one (just over 13,000). Or in RMNP you could try Ida or Ypsilon for a peak hike. Or Hallett's.

I've done Mt Elbert and Mt Massive. They're the 2 highest peaks in CO and can easily be done on a day hike per peak. Both very close
