Well almost 24 hours exactly after I left, I'm back in Steamboat. That was entirely too much time in the car for no skiing.

That really sucks.
I feel for you.
Too much snow, unbelievable.

Man I hate to hear that but sometimes that's the way it goes chasing pow. I went all the way to whistler and it was a total bust.
Just got back from Aspen after making a last minute trip. Aspen Mountain reported one inch of snow this morning, Snowmass 3, and Highlands 11. The 11 was bullshite and Joel from OpenSnow called them out on it. There was some snow though, and the Highland bowl was pretty bad arse overall

All it cost me was a some gas and time. I'm just glad I wasn't one of the people coming to visit Jackson Hole for a ski vacation. That would be a shitty way to have a trip canceled.
JHMR has to be losing money out the arse right now.
Made it back to dreary Steamboat. Gonna make some turns later. We need a real storm...bad. Morale in town is down. The troops need Mother Nature to rally us.

We may break a record high in Boulder tomorrow at 73 degrees man. It was amazing to me how much rain I saw en route to Aspen. Crazy shite. It was a bit crusty compared to usual this time of year from the warm temps

Almost went down to Denver to play some golf today. Might do it next week. Play golf and try and ski ABasin...in February.

Teton Pass is closed until Saturday now. Damn!

They released an advisory discouraging even locals traveling in the area. That's when I pulled the plug and turned around.
It's raining up there now and turning everything into a mess. Still got the day off today, so taking it easy and gonna make some slushy laps at Steamboat.

Pretty stoked on that. Of all the places on the epic pass, I miss ay bay bay the most this year having the RMSP

They have now declared a state of emergency there

Wow, that is crazy what is going on with JH. I would be very upset if I was supposed to be on vacation there this week. I'm hoping next year will finally be the year I can get to JH though.
I'm headed to Crested Butte on Feb 18 and loving the long term forecast Joel is mentioning. Seems like timing could be ideal for my trip.

I want to get a GoPro to surprise my friends for the annual ski trip next week. Any advice on which one to get and what kind of helmet mount I should get for it? What about battery life and memory-do I just leave it on all day then download to a computer after?

I got the Hero Session, which is the cube. Memory depends on SD card, but I bought a relatively cheap one and it's held a lot of videos. Battery life is good, but it will want to shut off if it gets cold like phones do while skiing. I take it off my helmet or chest mount and keep it warm in my pocket for a few minutes.
I use my phone to look at videos and even edit them. GoPro has a few good apps. Capture to watch videos. Quik to make quick videos. And Splice to edit clips.

Any suggestions for trying to find a cheap pair of skis on Craigslist? I want to put 5-10 days on the mountain this year on non-pow days to start learning. I go at a solid 5'9" 150lbs

I'd get some 170-175 skis. 90-100mm in waist. I'll keep an eye out on Boulder Craigslist.
Bindings will need to be mounted to fit your boot most likely, so finding a boot is a good first step. Though you can find a lot of skis with demo bindings that adjust to different boot lengths.

I have a hole in my 8 day ski CO plan, I hit Copper next Wednesday - which should I hit on Thursday Vail or Breck? I have been to both before but it was 6 years ago, tia

Assuming one doesn't have a snowfall that is significantly more than the other; I would go Vail 9 times out of 10
