2 Month Car Rental

Can anybody recommend a good place to rent a car for two months?
My parents just sold their house and are planning to take a trip cross country from Atlanta to the PNW. They have a 12 year-old Lexus that they plan on trading in and getting a new car for the trip.
I suggested that they rent a car for the trip, and hang on to the Lexus for another year. They are interested in the idea. They will be leaving around July 1st and plan on being gone for 2 months.

Why would renting a car for 2 months be better than trading in current car for new one?

Why not drive the Lexus and then trade it in? Is it not capable of 6,000 miles?
The depreciation of that will be much less than a rental car for that long.

The Lexus is long in the tooth and they are afraid of it breaking down in the middle of the desert in a place with no cell service. They are 80 years old and don't want to take the risk.

I apologize for being crude, but at that age this is likely their last car if for any other reason not many people are physically able to drive at 90.
So I honestly wouldn't have them worry about the deprecation, expense, etc. So I'd just have them trade it in and drive their new car. I mean an extra 6,000 or whatever miles is not going to affect the car value much in 5 years.

I'm not sure the car they are in isn't the last car they'll need, honestly. They are torn, right now, as to whether to take this car on the trip or trade it in and take a new car on the trip. My Mom is especially concerned about the Lexus as it has 150K miles on it. That's not particularly high mileage for a Lexus, and I think that car could last them a lot longer, especially since they recently moved to a new house that is closer to town than their old place at Reynolds Plantation. I just don't know if they want to take it on a cross country trip.
It's an SUV, so the mileage is crappy on it, and I think they could probably save 3 or 4 hundred bucks just on gas if they rented a more fuel efficient car. If they are in a rental and have an accident or it breaks down, they would just trade it in for another one. I don't think they want to just trade in the car for this trip.

Tell them to buy the new Lexus and drive it (and it's bumper-to-bumper warranty and Lexus roadside assistance) on their 6,000 mile jaunt.
A rental car offers less than that.
The difference in the value of the extra mileage that they will put on this next new car doesn't make any difference in ten or twelve years from now.

Try calling any of the big rental companies and getting a quote for a multi-month rental.
Also consider going through any memberships you or your parents have such as Costco, Sams, AAA, credit cards, or professional organizations.

I would call your local Toyota dealership and ask about a 2 month rental, and probably do that, if they don't want to get a new car now and drive it.
