Wife (sorry, no pics), myself, and 13 year old daughter (again, no pics) are going to Rome next month. Wife and I have been before and know all the obvious places to go. She's going to read up on roman history before we go but has anyone taken an evil creature like a 13 year old to the eternal city and what did they like?

I went to Rome when I was 13. We had a blast. The Vatican is boring but worth seeing. Obviously the Colloseum is a must see. The Roman forum is awesome. Right next to the Colloseum. Really well preserved ruins. Trevi fountain is a must. The Spanish steps are nice. Rome is also a cool City to just walk around in.

Every time I see an awkwardly worded thread like this I think of Seinfeld and the immortal line "A young girls erotic journey from Milan to Minsk...."

What are you worried about? Tons of stuff to do there, Pizza and Gelato are everywhere so eating won't be an issue and eating local food at that. I would think Rome would be one of the better European cities to take someone of that age. Also tons of history, try and get her involved as much as you can with that she will appreciate it with any history she takes through HS and college whether or not she does on the trip or not.

Should be fine. Just make sure she knows not to keep her phone/cash hanging out of a pocket in areas where tourists bottleneck (the Forum, Termini, Trevi, etc.). Pickpockets will take advantage of an easy target.

Other than that, it's an incredible city and there is obviously plenty to see from a historical perspective if your daughter is into that kinda thing.

Have your daughter cut her hair and dress up so that she is mistaken for Italy's biggest pop diva, Isabella, and don't be surprised if she falls for Paolo, Isabella's handsome singing partner.

She will then transform from awkward teen into international pop star. She will end up having to make the choice of a lifetime.

You've probably thought of this, but be sure to admonish her not to take anything that might be handed to her: flowers, gladiators sword, flying toys, etc. There will be a price if she does. One of mine made that mistake and we were followed across Piazza Del Popolo by an African demanding $.

Good point. What neighborhood are you staying in, OP? I spent quite a bit of time in Trastevere. If you're anywhere near there, I've got a few spots for you to hit.

Hmm, a 13 y o girl....when I was that age, I would have thought the basilica of Saint Clement really cool: it's a Norman church circa 1100 built atop a 4th century church, built atop a first century villa, and way way down at the bottom is a pagan temple (mithraeum) and a subterranean stream. My teenage self would have found the juxtaposition of Christian and pagan really cool. It's a short distance from the Colosseum.

I post this in every Rome thread: apply to visit the Scavi, the first-century excavations deep beneath St Peter's/Vatican...you can actually stand in front of the purported tomb of St. Peter. Only ~250 ppl a day, and you have to request in advance & be granted a timed ticket for a small group tour. Submit a request here: LINK

If she's into fashion, the streets around the Spanish Steps provide plenty of window shopping or browsing...via Condotti, via del Corso, via Babuino. Far more affordable for a teen are the various shops along the via die Gubbionari, which ends at the Campo di Fiori.....some leather goods/purses, scarves, socks, imported handicrafts, etc. Bonus is that you can stop at the Roscioli Bakery for pizza bianca, cookies, etc.

My favorite thing in Rome is the evening stroll....go see the monuments all lit up, wander from gelato shop to gelato shop, teach the kid how to people watch.

Its site says you have to be at least 15 years old and there are no exceptions. It ruled out my family's tour with a 13 year old this July. We'll see the ancient Roman house instead -- Le Domus Romane di Palazzo Valentini.

Took my 12 y.o. daughter to Juventus v. AC Milan at the San Siro and she did fine.

My daughter (and younger son) enjoyed the Vatican Museum and the colosseum.
