YouTube is giving viewers a way to tune in live to their favorite shows, without a cable or satellite subscription. The company announced a live and on demand TV service called "YouTubeTV" on Tuesday. The subscription, which will cost $35 a month for a family plan of up to six accounts, is expected to launch in the next few months. Subscribers will have access to up to 40 networks, as well as YouTube creator content. Channels include all broadcast channels and cable channels like USA, FX, Freeform, ESPN, Fox Sports and NBC Sports. Users can add Showtime and soccer programming for an additional fee. "There's no question that millennials love great TV content, but what we've seen is they don't want to watch it in the traditional setting," said YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki at a press event. Subscribers can tune into channels using the internet and on any device. They can also record as many programs as they want. At launch, people can stream to their TVs using Chromecast, with additional devices to be added in the future. The news comes at a time when more Americans are open to cutting the cord. A study from research firm GfK said a quarter of American homes don't subscribe to a pay TV service, with 6 percent only using the internet to watch their favorite shows on a TV using a device like Apple TV or Roku. A recent U.S Energy Information Administration survey shows 2.3 televisions were used in American homes in 2015, down from an average of 2.6 televisions per household in 2009. The number of homes with three or more TVs declined, while the number of homes without a TV grew. Google will have competition in the space. Hulu is planning is own over-the-top service this year, with CBS, Fox and Disney -- including ESPN -- among the networks who have signed on.

If this includes YouTube Red - meaning no more ads - then I might actually consider this.

No Walking Dead
Sadly, like many other streaming bundles, it has gaps. YouTube TV, as it’s called, will be missing channels from Viacom, including big names like Comedy Central and MTV. It also won’t have programming from Turner Broadcasting, meaning you won’t be able to get CNN, TBS, and TNT. AMC Networks, Discovery Communications, and A+E Networks are also missing as of the launch announcement.

Hell yeah! This is all good until net neutrality is inevitably reversed.

Damn solid lineup. Would consider.

They've been pulling out of everything. I assume they're gonna try to go the CBS All Access route which didn't work out for CBS. However, it did allow them to bring the local market distribution before any other local channels in BR.

Competition is good but no thanks, Google.

CNBC, ESPN including SEC and U? Sign me up.
Cox just increased my bill $20, and I'm now paying $95 for basic TV with one CableCARD and mini-box. Internet is up to $68. So sick of this shite.
One question about cutting the cord, and that's bandwidth. I have one channel I do leave on basically all day. With 1 TB monthly download limit, that could get problematic unless I'm able to control the streaming bitrate. Is that typically allowed by services like Youtube TV? If it's 4 Mbps or under, I should be OK, with room to spare for other usage.

Picture quality/resolution/color range will be an important thing to look for.

That's why I canceled Sling. The video quality would go from awesome to terrible every 4 minutes. Didn't matter if internet speeds at my house were 100+ and it was hard wired in. Sling just sucked.

Viacomm wants people to continue to subsidize the dozens of other worthless channels they own

I need something with the Big4, ESPN family (including SECN), HGTV, and Disney. With the ability to DVR.
