My company started issuing tablets. Windows 8 will give new non-tech employees an issue. Other than that i think they are a new toy for administration and will fade out. This could change. Whats your thoughts on tablets and what kind of work environment do you have?

I bought a surface pro when they first came out and use it for programming in VS. It has replaced my laptop all together, but the heaviest load is the programming. I also use it to administer my Plex/FTP server, but I do that from my phone as well...

I think it depends on the field. My company has them for our outside sales guys. It was way cheaper to get those on our company data plan than it was to get laptops with a mobile hotspot.

A large part of my job is document design, layout, and editing. Tablet interface is the worst for that. I also need a lot of screen real estate. Dual monitors are pretty much standard issue for my division at work. I haven't found a use for tablets other than being a toy. For mobile computing, I can get more done on a laptop. Add to that a larger screen phone (phablet), and I no longer have any use for a tablet, not even on the crapper.

Depending on the type of sales, tablets can be easier to handle than laptops. Think of it as a digital brochure/electronic forms with digital signatures. If you don't need to leave any sales material with the client, then you can save a lot of printing expense.

Everything I need to do for sales I can do on a tablet. Screw lugging around a laptop.

It will do everything you need it to do. I got mine to take offshore with me instead of toting a laptop. I watch movies, surf the net, talk to my wife, etc. Very happy with it.
