I sold my iPad 4 Retina because it was pissing me off with crashing saying the page had to be reloaded over and over (mostly on TD). Also, it had 2 small scratches. I sold it for $175. I got it for free as I won it from work.

So now I want a new one and am leaning towards the iPad Air 2 but of course I'm worried the crashing crap will still happen. My 4 was completely up to date. I can get it for $375 brand new.

Any other tablets I should really consider?

Or

Do I go for something like a Surface 3 ($499) or SP4 ($900+)? Of course, if I go for a S4 why not go more and get the Surface Book which I really dig? My current laptop still has life to it although it's been really lagging lately. I put in a SSD last year but for some reason it's been weird. I ran CC, Malwarebytes, MSE, etc.

But $1,600 is a huge jump from $400. I just like that I can have it at my table with a real keyboard and then when I go to lay my arse on the couch I can snap the tablet off and have it

Looking for reviews from people who have any of the above. TIA

Probably ought to let folks know how you use your laptop.

If it was for browsing, light gaming, office programs then I don't think you need to go all bonkers on a SP4 or Book.

I'm not the one to ask though because I have never really been comfortable with laptops.

I was damn close to dropping $1,200 on a SP4 then I really thought about how I would use it. Mainly for reading, email and browsing and at that point I decided dropping that cash was stupid. Got a nvidia tablet and love the hell out of the thing.

Replaced my slow arse nook tablet which was 5 years old and it blows it away. Saved 1k and happy as happy can be.

I'd go with the SP4. I think the price is worth it as the Surface 3 will be obsolete sooner.

I have had a Surface Pro 2 for a couple of years and it feels like it's as fast as the day I bought it. If the price is too high look at getting a used one. They all come with a 1 year warranty from Microsoft for internal parts.

Fwiw, neither my iPhone 6 nor my iPad Air 2 have that page crash and reload stuff happening. It seems like that was a problem a while back but I haven't noticed it in many months.

Sorry, didn't want the post going longer than I did. My current laptop is a travel laptop for my business. I use it for our software and to upload pictures, files, etc. Mostly use it for internet and office programs, etc. No games. I HAVE to have a a laptop. I have an XPS 17 now so it's got some weight to it.

So that's my option is to just get a tablet that works for me sitting on the couch and browsing the internet (TD, Amazon, etc) and which would be the best one to get?

Yeah, the Surface 3 seems pretty low on specs and is over $600 with the keyboard. I can get the Air 2 for over $200 cheaper.

The SP4 seems real nice but the one I'd want would likely only be a couple hundred cheaper than the Surface Book and I'd go for the better keyboard and overall laptop.

Thanks, that's good to hear. So you had it happen often on what model(s)?

I was fully updated to 9.3 or whatever on the iPad4 and it happened all the time. I was ready to throw it out the window

First you need to be sure you just want a tablet and not a laptop alternative.

If you want a laptop alternative, I'm sure ILike will be around at some point to give you some tips.

As for a tablet. Not sure on the best. I went with the nvidia because it appeared they do a better job of allowing people to upgrade quickly to the latest version of android.

I bounced all over the place on screen size, then finally decided I was mainly using this as a nook replacement so I really didn't want to have a big arse tablet.

So I bought the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1.

For $200, I figured that even if it sucked, I was only out $200. It didn't suck.

If browsing is the main function from the couch while watching the tube, you might want a bigger screen.

I already want the Surface Book but while my current laptop is still working I'm trying to hold off.

BUT, this new need of a tablet came up and I'm just thinking do I drop $400 or drop another $1,200+ and get a new laptop which also converts to a tablet?

Yeah, I bought my wife the iPad mini and it's too small a screen for me.

I don't remember ever having he page crashes happen on the iPad. I think I most remember the crashes happening on my iPhone 6+ before I switched to the iPhone 6 when my wife got a 6s. They may have continued a while after that but I guess an iOS update cured them at some point. Wish I could give more specific info.
