Do I really have to download some crazy app just to do this?

I got frustrated last night when trying one of those '12 hours of white noise' videos for my newborn..sidenote..i like the b-17 bomber one.

anyway, its leave the damn phone on laying by my bed all night with the brightness at the lowest setting or turn the phone off and the video stops.

just why google why?

please tell me i'm missing something obvious. why do i have to download a special tool just to play youtube on a BT speaker?

Rip the audio and play it from your phone's music player on repeat.
You won't need a 12 hour long song, just loop a minute long white noise audio track.

There are tons of free to download white noise audio tracks. There's even white noise radio on pandora.

My wife won't go to sleep without blasting that white noise pandora station.

Sometimes I've got to sleep with headphones on. It gets you buy surprise, though, when the white noise station is interrupted by a commercial lol,.

I used one on my iphone for years that let you combine a few different sounds. I just prefer something low-frequency like a big fan or air conditioner. I'd keep my iphone docked in a speaker (that is now 100% useless because a) It uses the old apple connector and b) I don't have an iPhone anymore).

Now we have a portable AC unit in the bedroom which is perfect.

EDIT: I believe it was this app: LINK Available on iOS and Android

If you still want it, FREEdi Youtube player in the Play store lets you play videos in the background.

i actually installed something called 'listen on repeat' which seems to do the same thing.

this thread has inpsired me that there are lots of other options but i still like being able to play a youtube video with my phone off if i'm ever driving or something and want to play something not in my music library so i'll probably keep it installed.

I use Firetube for that purpose. Plays youtube videos with a music player like interface.

Also, If you can find an older APK of the app I mentioned, you can watch videos normally blocked on mobile. They updated the app and took it away a couple of months ago after I deleted all my old Titanium backups.

I use the RCA output on a Roku 2xs into a lepai 2020a+ powering a pair of Sony SSF-7000 speakers to play rain or beach sounds in my room at night. The phone can be turned off once the YouTube video is "casted." It's also got the video out going to an old TV so that sound can be played without video or you can watch anything.

I would advise much smaller speakers like the Dayton Audio b652 for your needs. The cheapest Roku you can find should run around $35. Lepai amp is $20. Those speakers are $50. It's overkill for current needs, but it's something that can continue to be used for a long time and is a decent enough stereo system in its own right (minus the source being a streamed YouTube video)

This is, of course, kind of unusual if that's all you need and don't have most of the parts lying around for other reasons. Consider buying a white noise cd or dowoading/buying a looped noise file and playing to one of your famed Bluetooth (you're a Jawbone fan, right?) speakers plugged in.

But as far as just answering your question, I don't know a way to make youtube play in the background. That feature was removed close to 2 years ago if I remember correctly.
