Home depot online

That's a steal especially since the v1 hub is still hackable. Great deal!

And I also post about Honeywell thermostats and android phones and wear devices.

I've also started an official home automation thread on here so are you surprised I'm keeping up with deals?

Wink or some other smart hub is eventually going to live in your home. It's just that wink has GE and quirky behind it and has lined up a great consortium of vendors including lutron, schlage, kwikset, nest, honeywell, etc and for 99 cents this is a no brainer to dip your toe in the water.

Eta plus that Jeff Goldblum wink commercial

so how does this work? do you just turn the light switch on then use the app to turn it off and on after that? what happens if the app has the light off but I want to use the switch to turn it on?

It's a brain. A big arse logic board loaded with every radio standard in existence that any connected device has used in the last 10 years.. WiFi lutron Bluetooth zwave etc.

Because of that it can theoretically connect all that crap in one beautiful ui.

The problem isn't the hardware.. It's the software that wasn't ready for primetimev because GE/quirky is trying to establish themselves as the best smart hub.

Competitors are those $50000 home automation systems, smarthings hub and that red hub that google just bought.

I like it because it works very well with different devices so far and I can create macros/robots as buttons on my wear watch to kick off whole sequences of things.. Garage opens when I get 2 blocks from home, lights turn on, front door unlocks and the HVAC temp changes.

Anyway..its 99 cents. If you want to bitch about that price go find anther thread.

PS here's my total investment so far:

- Schlage touchscreen deadbolt $129 eBay
- Chamberlain myq WiFi garage door opener $79 target
- Honeywell touchscreen thermostat $70 x2
- ge 60w lightbulb $15 x2
- wink hub 99¢

Roughly $380 so far for 6 connected devices and the brain. Not bad.

Keep an eye on the amazon warehouse area. The seller we used isn't there at the moment but he'll probably be back.

I talked about 10 people into buying these so I think I cleaned him out

didnt see the cent sign. Thought it was 99$. My b. I just ordered the myq garage door opener. With those robots, you can set it to open when you are a certain distance from home? How does that work?

Amazon is running essentially the same special. Buy any two wink related products, get the hub free.

I'll be pulling the trigger, although I'm more tempted by the relay/command center.

Y'all don't connect these to the internet until I give you the rooting instructions on here.

I have a Linux buddy who is going to come over and help me so I will have an easy step by step guide for you.

I'm rooting 3 so I should have the process down pat.

Eta there is a back door that is removed by wink if you let it call home. If you don't let it connect you can gain the root password and then wink can never take that away from you. Advantage is you can set up all the controls locally without going through the wink cloud.

If you've already connected you're SOL so just take it back to home depot and swap it for a virgin unit.

Eta2 there's already an android app someone wrote that lets you communicate with your smart things locally if you have a rooted hub.

LINK

It's still in early stages.
