The most important thing I am looking forward to on the bigger iPhones later this year is larger text; I don't care much about being able to see more info on the screen. I have bad eyes and I find the text on my iPhone 5 to be very small sometimes. Do you think the size of the text and icons will grow on the iPhone 6 models?

Changing text size in Settings is not an option because I don't think all apps support dynamic text.

So it is an option, it just doesn't work across all apps.

To answer your question, yes, text will be bigger.

I would agree that the iphone needs a major update to compete with the galaxy

thats kinda what i'm saying. colorchange says its only been 20 months..but in that time google has released 2 new nexus phones..its not just samsung making new ones.

by the time the 6 comes out..google, motorola, HTC and samsung will all have newer models yet again.

for apple to regain momentum, they need to at least get on a yearly release cycle like all the other major players.

20 months to wait for a SINGLE MODEL phone is way too long.

They are on a yearly release cycle, they started the yearly release cycle that all the other players are emulating.

That's why they update every year.

c'mon. they're the same thing. 5s comes in gold and there's a plastic version as well.

would you really argue the 5s is on par with what Google has done from Nexus 4 to 5? Samsunng G3 to G4? HTC One?

honest question..the 5s was lipstick on a pig.

It's no different than the upgrade from the S4 to the S5.

Are you saying the 5 and 5S are the same phone? because the 5S CPU is twice as fast as the 5, they went 64 bit with the 5S. They added the finger print sensor, which samsung immediately aped and got shite canned for because there's sucks. 5S added the M7 coprocessor for energy efficiency. 5S got a huge boost in GPU performance. It went from LPDDR2 DRAM to LPDDR3 DRAM, upgraded the camera, added slo mo, etc.

There was a much bigger improvement between the 5 and 5S than the S4 to S5.

What happened to the pending endemic that was going to be thieves cutting off people's fingers to unlock the stolen phones the android crowd was spouting last September after TouchID was demoed?

I don't disagree, but that's essentially Apple's strategy -- stagger their releases so that the incremental upgrades are more appealing.

The iPhone's 'upgrades' have always been minimal at best, and it's almost as if they mapped it out in a meeting 7 years ago. Seriously, you can't tell me they weren't like "okay in the 3G will do this, and the 4 will have FaceTime, and the 4S will have voice automation and command text, and the 5 will have a bigger screen and Air Play..."

If Apple doesn't blow me away in September, I'll be switching to a Galaxy S5. The Galaxy's screen size is perfect to me.

All the pictures I take are waiting for me on my iPad, MacBook and Apple TV when I get home without me having to do anything.

so you have a complete apple solution, desktop, laptop, ipad, iphone, appleTV. it makes sense in a closed system things work together well.

quote:

Gmail is the preferred email for both me and the wife. We use Google Hangouts all the time and use the Google+ app to backup our photos automatically to the cloud. I even use the Google Now app on my iPhone everyday.

so when you say your photos are waiting for your on your iPad, etc. do you mean because you back them up using Google+? or do you have 2 different photo backups at work here?

quote:

The beauty of having iOS devices is that we are able to share pictures easily with iPhone users or Android users without any restrictions.

why is this the beauty of 'ios devices'? i've found sharing a photo with g+ extremely easy as well and all the person needs is essentially an email address for me to share it to. there's no reason for them to own an ios device for that.

quote:

With FaceTime, iMessage and Google Hangouts, we can chat or video chat with pretty much anybody. Our music is available on both iCloud and Google Music and we can play anything we want anywhere. Chromecast and Apple TV takes care of our streaming needs. iOS devices are cool in that way - you get full support Apple's and Google's ecosystems.

you are mixing both ecosystems here which to me seems complicated. having to learn both appleTV and chromecast quirks? iMessage and Hangouts quirks?

i guess i'm arguing against the value of apple's ecosystem. just don't see what you get with it you cant get with android and in a less restrictive/more universal format.

my wife had an iphone and it seemed there was no end to the dead-ends i would run into on that device because we have no other apple products in our house.

google doesnt make me by a chromebook or android tablet to work well. it lets me own a PC, chromebook, mac, etc. and i still get 100% of the functionality.

What in the hell does this, or any of the other posts in this thread have to do with the OP?

the fact you're hoping apple finally makes their tiny phone screen bigger after waiting 5+ years for that to happen maybe?

makes you wonder if they can really compete in the future.

I'm not the OP.

And maybe this guy is OK with his "tiny" screen? His problem wasn't about screen size, it was about fonts in certain apps.

Are you really having that much trouble with this?

From the OP

The guy has a problem with font size. He's wondering if a bigger phone will solve his issue with font size. He's not asking for a bigger phone necessarily...he wants a solution to his font size issue.

Did you even read the OP?

It sounds like they made a decent camera upgrade. I see all these fanboys on both sides treat phones like PCs, as if what they want is MORE POWER!!!! That's not what the average person wants out of their phone. Do I foresee a time when your phone is your computer that you "dock" into desktop mode? Sure, but we're probably 3-5 years away at least. What people want and need now is more durability (and less cracked screens), longer battery life (something iPhones are very good at), and continued assimilation of the point and shoot camera market. Finding a way to add optical zoom (Samsung filed for a patent on liquid zoom lenses in 2010 LINK /) to the cameras on smartphones will be a bigger selling feature than pretty much any OS/Processing Power related feature would be.
