Pretty sure Google has halted Google fiber expansion.

Huntsville barely got in and the utility company is doing the installation. What's funny is we are getting a top golf... Cocidence?

Rumor was that we missed out on being the initial city partly because Jindal's wife had a charity funded by ATT.

Google halted their fiber expansion and will not (as of last I heard) continue bringing fiber to areas. They are going to finish the areas they started laying the fiber in and that's it.

All we can do is pray Eatel expands to Baton Rouge.

I have EATEL and service and reliability have been great.

They've finally become negotiable for existing customers who are looking at other options.

No way I would switch to Cox, however pricing does continue to tick up over time, probably no different than any other service.

not true. they just added louisville, ky to their "upcoming cities list" from "potential cities" like yesterday. They are however looking for completely different methods of implementation

They sure need it.

Moved into a Fiberhood here in April and sign ups weren't open, so I get ATT gigabit. A month or two later they opened them back up.

Now I'm moving into our house and there's no gigabit internet over there.

I wouldn't hold your breath for Google fiber if you aren't in a city laying it. Louisville is years away. Baton Rouge might be a decade or more if they are even still pursuing it at that time.

I still can't believe Huntsville didn't receive it sooner with everything that goes on there. You have NASA, Redstone Arsenal (which has become the 2nd home of the Army behind Rock Island after AMC moved their HQ to Redstone), around 600 defense contracting firms, research going on at UAH.

Don't worry, in about 4 years we will all be on the SpaceX satellite internet and all of that fiber will be obsolete.

Correct. There was an article yesterday about it

And rumors are that they will go wireless in the future and they did buy a wireless ISP already.

Last summer, Google Fiber acquired WebPass wireless, a gigabit technology that only needs point-to-point airspace, obviating the need to dig or hang cables.
