Just installed a new Archer C9 and on the 2.5 channel my download speeds have tripled. What do I do with this 5ghz channel? Smart tv and Firestick??

Torrent downloads went from 1mb/s to 6.5!

The 5GHz channel is for low interference and high speed (as in, high speed for your local network. You probably wouldn't see a difference in internet speeds between the two channels unless you just have oversaturated 2.4GHz channels in your area). 5GHz has poor range. I put my nearest 5GHz-capable devices on that band.

A lot of your devices will not be able to take advantage of wireless AC but should be able to use the wireless N capability. With three antennas, wireless N speeds of up to 450 Mbps are possible on the 5Ghz band provided that you have a matching three-antenna device and you configure the router to use channel bonding. Don't use channel bonding on the 2.4Ghz band unless you want to really piss off your neighbors.

I never realized how out of touch I was with wireless technology. Channel bonding??? What?

I don't k ow what my devices are capable of. I have a 2 year old laptop some iPhone 6s's and a 4 year old MacBook

HERE's a good explanation.

A lot of cheaper or older wireless devices are not dual band, they don't have triple antennas, and many of them are not even wireless N, let alone AC, so you'll be limited to 2.4Ghz regardless of the super-duper router.

I stream on my tv with the 5hz channel (it's close to the router). I put my kids iPads on the 2.4hz channel. I love my archer c9.
