I have been able to keep a relatively low profile online for a long time. In fact, other than my age range, none of my information has been easily available online.....until very recently. I search my name periodically to check for this stuff, and sure enough, my name, home #, address, social, cell #, etc is all online now. This is within the past month, and I have no idea how it happened since I have been clean for every year since the internet came about. I have also noticed Google Maps just started displaying my home address when I open it. It never used to track my movements, and now it does. No settings have changed.

Going through the process to remove yourself from all of these sites is a major PITA, so I am thinking about using a service called DeleteMe to do it for me. These are actual people doing the process. Have yall used or heard of them? You basically pay for a year of protection. The only social media presence I have is TD, and I cannot be easily connected to my account here.

Here is what they do:

DeleteMe is a subscription service that removes your personal information from the largest people search databases on the web, such as Spokeo.com and Intelius.com. (Click here to see the full list DeleteMe covers with your subscription.)

You provide us with the information you’d like deleted, and we do all the tough work to get your info removed. We then monitor each site to make sure that your personal information stays gone. We provide you with regular personalized privacy reports showing you what information we found, and what we removed. Not comfortable with anyone with a computer having easy access to intimate details of your private life? Then DeleteMe is for you!

I wonder it would be easier to flood the Internet with fake information to create confusion? Like buy online with a fake name and prepaid credit card, have items mailed to a friend or relative's house, have someone put fake information on random websites like saying you live in a different city, etc?

Supposedly, all of the websites grab publicly available info, which I have been able to keep at bay so far. I think the only things I have done differently recently is getting a new job, changing my Cox package, and Google maps started showing my house when I get on it. Other than that, I can't think of anything else.

I have burner emails, very, very rarely use my real name, use fake phone numbers, and I use my grandparents' address for things I order online (different last name). Zero social media except TD

Have you installed any apps on your phone recently? Update to an android phone that changed the Google settings?

People create apps now for the expressed purpose of getting access to your personal info through the permissions you grant. Many are reading your text, emails, contacts, ect.

Only apps over the past few months are Allcast, Should I Answer?, and Root Explorer. I don't use apps that aren't reviewed well and recommended

This probably triggered it. Everybody sells information now.

Didn't they just pass a bill that basically gives our cable and ISP's full rights to sell our information to the highest bidder ?

I have no idea man. It went from me not showing up on any search engines at all, to all of my information showing up for free on every search engine within a couple of months. I mean, I couldn't even find out information about myself before, but my cell #, home addy, etc are now in the hyperlinks
