I am at 34.52 mb/s download and 6.25 mb/s upload and 22 ms ping speed.

My connection just has so much lag...can't tell if it is the router, the modem or just a shitty comcast connection.

I used to be able to test by connecting my computer directly to the modem for testing, but I don't have the jacks to connect the two.

Thoughts on figuring this out?

My wired Comcast connection in Nashville is actually pretty good. I get around 90-100 down and about 15 up. Ping is slow, but the wired speeds are great. This is the basic plan for me and they keep upping the speeds since Google and At&T announced gigabit connections.

Wireless from their router on the other hand... I get about 6 down and 10 up when sitting right next to the modem/router. Had to send the last one back it was so bad, and it was a 5AC. The one the sent as a replacement is only a 2.4, but it's stable at least.

edit: To answer how to actually connect and test them, I can't help you. I thought you were looking for speed averages these days.

one of the most successful internet entrepreneurs since the turn of the century has to come to this place seeking advice about the internet?

And I was just beginning to think I was crazy for thinking this.

Chicken,

if you are still in HTown. Get the Comcast 100mb deal for $50. They say there is a 300Gb data cap, but I've never had them cut me off or bill me.

You'll also want to upgrade that modem to DOCSIS 3.0 if youi haven't already.

I'm a cord cutter. I stream everything in my house wirelessly in whatever quality I want. So much better than paying AT&T $50 a month for 25 mbps.

I am using a DOCSIS 3.0 with the newer Apple AirPort Extreme Time Capsule router. If you look at the below image, the last 3 tests were done on the new Airport router as opposed to the ones below them done on the older Airport router I replaced.

You can see that the 2 done on August 21 are considerably faster--those were done using the new router. The last one at the top I did a few minutes ago--I don't know what the hell caused that crappy number at 11:46pm on a Tuesday night!!

All of these were done wirelessly from an iPad. When I use my Apple MacMini, the downloads are always over 100mb/s.

So, I am getting mid 30's from an iPad and over 100 with a computer running Yosemite wirelessly connecting to the new Airport router with DOCSIS 3 modem.

Just tested again a few minutes later and got this from an iPad...

I have no idea what caused the 2mb/s download speed I got ten minutes ago...

100 up/down should be the basic package for anyone in a non rural area if the cable/phone companies weren't dicking us. However, there really isn't a good excuse city dwellers shouldn't all have gig internet at EPB/Google prices aka $70 a month, no additional services required on your package.

Now that I have it, it will be impossible to move anywhere with shitty internet.

I get around 120 down and 12 up on TWC. Google fiber's currently being installed in Charlotte though...
