What is causing nightly/early morning data usage on my phone?

Alright tech board, I'm baffled. I have some substantial data usage reported for my S5 Active at a time when I am asleep and my phone should be connected to my home's WIFI. It happens almost every night between 1am and 4am. I can track what apps use data on my phone in general, but am unable to track specific data usage times by app. Can you offer any suggestions on what may be happening? Is it possible my phone is using both WIFI and 4GLTE to download updates/push e-mails?

Does your phone disconnect from WiFi when not in use as a battery saving measure?

ATT explained to me one time that it only reports data usage updates ever so often, so it could have been used the day before, but just not reported until sometime between 1-4

turn off data usage at night
