Gadgetry in our new home is as follows:

2 laptops
2 Samsung tablets
2 cell phones
1 Fire TV box (connected to dumb TV)
1 Samsung smart tv

At any one time my GF and I can have up to 4 or 5 of these running at once. (Ridiculous now that I type it out)

We don't have cable so all of our TV entertainment involves streaming Netflix, Hulu, etc.

Also, I have Kodi on my Fire TV and plan to use it frequently for movies.

Between At&t and Cox, they offer anything from 3 mbps up to 150 or so in New Orleans.

What would the tech board recommend for non interruptive entertainment? I'm a cheapskate too, so I'm not gonna get the highest one just for the hell of it. What would be the minimum required?

TIA

100 suits me fine with 3 phones, streaming 1080 Netflix, and a laptop all running at the same time. I wish I had more though, but it works

"Running" can mean a lot of things. If it's just the two of you, I'm assuming the max number of streams going would be two, plus some normal browsing. I'm also assuming these streams are not 4K.

I'd recommend something along the lines of 25mbps as an absolute minimum (I am sure someone will come along and say this is not enough, though). But Cox's 50mbps package is probably comparable in price to AT&T's 24mbps.

I'm always skeptical about how much you actually need. 100 just seems unnecessary (to me) for 2 people.

In our current apartment we share internet throughout the building (live in the Quarter and share with restaurant below). It's a pretty shitty connection most of the time. For instance right now I'm getting 1.31 mbps, and that's a good connection for us because the restaurant is closed right now.

With that shitty 1.3 or so connection we can typically stream Netflix while playing on our tablets or phones with minimal issues the majority of the time.

Occasionally I can stream a movie from Kodi, although that's a rarity.

But I figure if we can do that much with such a slow connection, with 25 or even 15 we would have plenty right?

You are correct in these assumptions.

25 was about what I was thinking.

Do you do any downloading? Gaming?

We had 45 MBps from U-verse, and it was very rare that it wasn't enough. I upgraded when I started working from home more, but I think 45 MBps is about the lowest I'd want.

No gaming, and no serious downloading.
