Hololens > all
Sure they only have the Dev Kit out now, but what's a mere $3,000 when you can have a virtual pet sit next to you on the sofa?

The best one out there right now is the Vive. It's the one I have, but it really needs a top end graphics card and processor to keep up with some of the more high end games coming out right now. You will be spending big money to keep up with it.
Having said that, I think anyone looking to get a top end one should wait until the next generation. I am not super impressed with the quality of monitors in these yet. It needs another generation.
If you want to get something cheap though, the PS VR is the way to go. It's not going to be very good, but it will be VR.

This is kind of the problem I see with VR right now. It's a rich man's game at $800 a headset, but being a (fairly) new technology it obviously has a lot of room to grow and continue to be developed. The next generation should see great improvements, but how many resources will be dedicated to that next generation if this one is a financial failure? It seems like you almost have to spend the $800 as a downpayment to the continuation of the technology.

This. Aside from Hololens all the VR headsets I've seen require the headgear to have a cable and some form of hand controller. The big downside of the Hololens is that the actual viewing area within the headset is small. I think the next generation of VR headsets will bridge these two setups to allow a wireless headset that doesn’t need hand controllers but that encompasses your entire field of view.
Once that comes out and is down to a $200-$300 pricepoint I think you’ll see the beginning of the VR revolution.

The cable doesn't really bother me, I don't have to charge it along with the controllers. I don't have a big enough room to use the full range of the Vive, so it's never been an issue really.
I hope it continues and I would love to get something to improve the motion aspect of it like a treadmill. That's the biggest issue facing VR right now outside of tech, getting a good motion system that isn't teleporting and doesn't make you sick is tricky. You can only walk so far inside your house.

Isn't it like $400?

Yeah, but that is cheap compared to the $800 headset and needing a $1000+ computer to run it properly. VR isn't for the poor unless you go with google cardboard and your phone.
