I have a question for you tech guys.

I have had two lines since the Altell days with unlimited data. My son is using one of these lines now and he is not using much data. I am thinking of opening a new family sharing plan for my wife and son to use.

If I do this, can I associate a wireless hot spot from Verizon to his current line or does it have to be associated with a phone? Cable internet is expensive and a redundant expense if I can use the Verizon service. The cable internet speed is inconsistent too.

We do a lot of streaming through Amazon Prime and Netflix. Do I run the risk of being cancelled from Verizon if my data spikes?

TIA

They're probably gonna kick you off unlimited data if you start altering your account

Can I use my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE SIM card in a 4G LTE device not purchased from Verizon Wireless?

Yes, you can use your Verizon Wireless 4G LTE SIM card in any device, as long as it is a Verizon Wireless-certified 4G LTE device. Visit www.verizonwireless.com/certifieddevice to find out if your device is compatible with your SIM card and to explore eligible price plans. Once you've activated your SIM card on an eligible plan, you'll need to insert it in your device.

If you're not sure how to insert a SIM card into your device, you can refer to your device's User Guide or one of our simulators. Select your device from our Simulator Index page, and then select the "Inserting the SIM Card" simulation.

Note: Your SIM card may already be activated. If you removed it from another active device and didn't deactivate it, then it's still active. All you need to do is insert it in your new device.

Verizon wouldn't let me keep my unlimited plan that I'd had since phones started being able to access the internet. They would not let me renew my contract the way it was with unlimited data.

Be very weary of how they are keeping track of your data usage. I got a 6GB plan after the unlimited because I hadn't gone over that in the two years before I switched. All of a sudden, I was getting hit with massive usage. First month was 9gb, second 12, and the third 16. I called and bitched, and magically it went back down to normal.

Hotspot can come from a phone, or you can use this little USB thing that plugs into your computer

I have thought about using the phone for the hotspot but I do not want to pay the extra $25-$30 a month but more importantly people had home would not have internet service if I was away with my phone.

I don't think that you will be able to do this and here is why: Tethering is different than a phone. You won't be able to go from an unlimited data phone to a tethered Wifi hotspot even if you pay full price for it since it is a different device type.

I have an old 3g air card connected to a wireless device for my car with unlimited data. I recently inquired about buying a mobile hot spot and upgrading to LTE/ 4G. I was told the store could not do it but to call customer support. I called them and was told that unlimited does not transfer to LTE/4 G, only 3g and therefore an upgrade to a new non 3g device cancels the unlimited data plan.

They said they no longer sold 3g air cards, but I could buy one to use if mine broke, but I could not use and 4g/ LTE device...

Interesting because I went from a 3g phone to an LTE phone with no issues, just had to pay cash for the phone and not sign a new contract. I would think that if you just bought a 4g card that is compatible with your old card and swapped the SIM (if they use one) that it would work.

I would be interested if I could do this. My old air card is just a USB device drive.
