what is the consensus on Uverse in Baton Rouge?

Cox has burned me for the last time. Frankly, i don't understand how they're getting away with it.

I've had U-Verse since it was first offered in Baton Rouge six or seven years ago. I get consistent download speeds of 15-18 Mbps. The service is generally quite reliable although I've had two outages following hurricanes that lasted almost a week. Both times AT&T gave me a nice credit on my bill as compensation. The few times I've placed service calls the technician came out within one day. I pay $61 a month for internet only (I don't have U-Verse TV or phone).

I've been tempted to switch to Cox for the higher speeds but then I recall the horrible experiences I've had with Cox in the past that caused me to dump them in the first place.

What services are you looking for from them?

I had TV and was very pleased. If I get cable again, I'll likely go back to UVerse. After my discounts expired I was paying $120ish/month for U300 with DVR and two additional wireless boxes plus full HD service. Obviously, it'll be cheaper if you bundle...but I can't speak to their internet reliability or speeds.

I have no major complaints about Uverse, other than its limitations. Depending on how far you are from the VRAD in your neighborhood, you may limited to certain internet speeds, in addition to how many HD shows you can watch/record simultaneously. I am a 2-3000 feet from the VRAD I believe, which means I can record or watch 4 shows at once, but only 3 of them can be HD. It's seldom been a problem, but I have a feeling it will be when my kids get older.

As for internet, I was limited to 18mbps, which I tolerated for a year or two before switching to Cox. Now I have Uverse for TV and Cox for internet. UVerse is far more reliable than Cox, but I tolerate Cox's occasional outages because it's still superior to Uverse internet in general.

i didnt know you could do this. I actually called once and was told i had to keep the uverse internet in order for the tv service to work. i didnt really research it further because im about to switch it to DTV/Cox anyway.

My uverse averages around 3 mbps or so, ocassionally will bump up to around 16, but also sometimes rolls at around .5.

It's awful.

Have it for the internet at the office and the service is terrible (similar to 9600 baud modem) and the price is right at 50 bones.

I'm switching to cox later this month.

I feel I had better download speeds with compuserve in 1991.

If you don't mind the cost it isn't too bad. Like others have said, the internet is slow for the cost. I started with an introductory offer with 18 mbs for $60, and cable about $70 that was u300 or 350 not sure with two additional wireless boxes. Total was $130ish. Not a problem. When the deal ended it went to $190. Dropped down to u200 which is the smallest package of channels(still over 200) and my bill was still $170ish. I only watch ESPN or netflix so I convinced my wife to drop cable and we got SlingTV. So far so good.
