Transferring music from Iphone to Mac

We recently got a new computer. Saved music from our old computer on to an external HD and went to upload onto our new computer, but the external HD only has music purchased from iTunes on it. My phone has all my music on it (iTunes purchased and old CDs). What's the best way to get all of my music on to my new computer? I googled this but there are a lot of different programs out there - just want to know which is best/easiest. TIA

Just plug it up and tell it to backup.

I did this 2 days ago, but I saved all of my CD music to the external hard drive.
1. Plugged up external hard drive
2. Open itunes
3. File>preferences>advanced> make sure 'copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library' is checked
4. Drag and drop from external hard drive location to itunes
And again, in keeping with my tech board post history, I hate itunes.
