I've been a religious android guy for a while. I've owned an HTC Hero, HTC Evo 4g, Nexus S 4g, Motorola Photon, Samsung Galaxy S 2 (epic 4g touch), Galaxy Note 2, HTC one M7, Moto X (1st gen), HTC One M8, and Moto X (2nd Gen).
As for tablets, I've owned a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, Asus Transformer tf 700, Nexus 7, and Galaxy Note 10.1.

As of late I've stopped using my widgets (I just never use them anymore), all I use my phone for is calling, texting, tRant, music, and YouTube on occasions. I bought an iPad about a month ago and love it. It's by far the best tablet I've ever used. Apple's ecosystem has improved, and since I can't even root my phones anymore (damn Verizon locked the bootloaders permanently and XDA development still hasn't found a way to root the M8 on android 5.0) I was thinking about just switching my phone to an iPhone 6 plus. I love what android has to offer, always have, but I don't take advantage of it anymore.

Thoughts on what I should do? I need support in this huge lifestyle change.

ETA- I love my PC and will never switch to a MacBook due to software compatibility and stuff...

I think the fact that you would consider it

If you got the money and there is nothing Android on the horizon you may want, wouldn't hurt to test it out. See if someone you know has a 5 or a 5s they are no longer using you could play with on wifi for a few days to see if you like it. If you have an ipad already, it's just basically a mini ipad.

I switched to an iPhone 6 last month after only having Android devices(S4, S3, Samsung Intercept, etc) mainly to try something new and see if I'd like it (and so I could decide which I like better instead of just taking other people's word on it).

I'll admit, there are things I don't like (I used screen widgets a lot, so I was disappointed about not having them and Android will always be better at customization), and there are things I really do like (replying via lockscreen, the notification dropdown widgets, no stupid volume warning every time I play music like damn Samsung phones would do).

Overall, I was pleased that it wasn't as huge a shift as I was worried about, I didn't have a lot of paid for apps on Android, so apart from picking a radar app, there wasn't much additional cost. While I miss some of the customization on Android, I also like that overall the iPhone runs smoother.

So as far as phones go (I agree, I could never do a MacBook), I would say give it a shot and try it out, usually your carrier will let you return it and swap it if you don't like it. If you don't even want to do that then go to the store and play with it a bit and see what you think.

I'm doing the opposite. I'm not anti-Apple by any means, but I've switched to Android for phone/tablet and am considering getting a Surface/Surface Pro.

I don't use itunes, am not invested in iOS apps, don't use icloud, don't use Apple mail, don't use iMessage, etc.

The only reason I'm tied to Apple at all is that I do like the OS and the laptop hardware quality.

I own both an android and iPhone 5s and use them for different situation by switching the sim.

If I want to look cool when I'm going out, I'll use an iPhone.

When I need to get shite done, I use android.

When I feel like commiting suicide I'll pop my sim into a blackberry

Try whatever. You are hardly "selling your soul" to Apple by switching phones. The iPhone fits in fine with any ecosystem.

Owner of a six plus here. My ups and downs so far:

-opened the box and thought, Jesus this thing is huge
-got used to the size quickly and have not yet dropped my phone due to the size. Now when I see other phones they look like tiny toys.
-fell out of love due to abunch of little errors with the software. It was little things like when entering in a new contact, every time I would click a line to enter information, it would immediately drop down to the line below. So I'd type in Sarah, look down and notice I had written Sarah in the last name slot. And "Error, this page was reloaded" messages online.
-This newest update seems to have fixed every issue I've had and I'm falling back in love.

That's cool. But I have an iPad air 2 and a Surface Pro 3. The surface blows my iPad out of the water. Probably about to sell my iPad because I never use it.

Yeah I've got too much stuff right now so if I do it I'm going to go cheap. Probably the Surface 3 or maybe a SP 3 once the 4 arrives. I'm guessing the SP 3 would still be a worthwhile buy at a somewhat reduced price?

either get a surface now or wait till the SP3 is cheaper if your worried about price. some details leaked about the SP4 and it's apparently very similar to the SP3. you can probably google the exact specs that leaked.

whichever one you get just make sure you install bluestacks on it. the microsoft app store is severely lacking when compared to google play.

If you don't need it for work use (Microsoft word, excel, etc.) the iPad is far and away the best tablet to have. And it's not even close IMO. I've owned a KindleFire HD and a Samsung Galaxy tablet ( for a total of 1 week until I brought it back and got the ipad)

I have heard great things about the Microsoft Surface if you will need it for work stuff

As far as phones I think apple and HTC are both legit, have had 2 iPhone and the HTC One M7 and loved both

Did you read my entire post?

ETA: what do you use the tablet for? All I use it for is for internet, email, and music. Would the Surface Pro be that big of a difference just for stuff like that?

I don't need a sp3, I have a yoga pro 3. The sp3 is a beast, but not what I'm looking for in a tablet

which part? the using the surface for work part?

I use my surface 50% for work school related and 50% to game on. being able to game with android apps on a 12 inch screen is awesome, plus you can put it in windowed mode with other programs open in the background like a regular laptop. it blows any gaming I do on my ipad out of the water. and as you said it's already hands down better to work with.
