I am currently in the market to replace my iPad. It is a very early model so nothing too fancy about it compared to current versions. I am not an apple loyalist by any means and want some advice on the microsoft surface 3 or 4 As far as what i am looking for: portability, a decent size screen, and the ability to download movies and games for flights. Anything else i do with it at home is really just icing on the cake. I enjoyed my iPad but I dont know if i can justify spending that much money on something with so many comparable products. any advice helps!

I see the Surface as a great replacement for a laptop for someone that needs both and is ok with the screen size. If you're just looking for something to play with on the play, then go with something cheaper. Do you have an iphone or android phone?

It sounds like pretty much any well-reviewed tablet will fit your needs.

To me, the value of the Surface line in a world of good tablets and super portable laptops is the pen. If that's not of use to you, I'm not sure how much you'll get out of it.

ultimately it is a replacement of an ipad and a laptop. I liked the versatility of the surface with the keyboard and pen but like i said i am not really brand specific. I do not do a ton of typing but the little i do it would be nice to have the keyboard.

Sounds like the surface pro would be perfect. The only thing I don't know about is what games you play on the ipad and their availability from the microsoft store. If you aren't loyal to any games/apps from your ipad, and just use them to pass the time, it's hard to argue against the surface pro.

If no use for the pen, then what? Starting to really hate my Asus.

Due to your NEEDS and the belief that you overpaid for an ipad, then the Surface should not even be in consideration...unless you plan to replace the ipad and also utilize more laptop functionality
