Syncing Calendars From Gmail to Iphone

I downloaded the google calendar app after receiving a calendar from my son's school. Problem is all the events in the app are 2 hours behind the google calendar they e-mailed me.
The time zone is correct, so I can't figure it out. And it didn't sync to my phone's standard calendar either.
Any advice?

Login to the calendar via PC & in Settings there, check the time zone & read the explanations for how variations are managed.
