Swapping from Directv to Dish

Need some guidance. Trying to make sure I don't end up having a day or two without television but also not paying for both services at the same time. Should I schedule the Dish guy to come and then cancel Directv? When I cancel with Directv will that be immediate?

I called them to cancel 2 weeks out. They called back 2 days later and gave me a sweet deal to stay ($50 month less) and one year contract. Cancelled the cancellation during that call.
Call them and find out what day you are paid up through and make sure install can be done before that.

I've had them for about 6 years and just wanting to change. I know when I call to cancel, they're going to throw me a sweet offer.
Follow-up question: I just checked and see that AT&T Fiber U-verse is now available to me. For $60 a month I can get 100 Mb download and 1 Tb of usage. Currently paying $60 a month for Suddenlink's 50 Mb download and 250 Gb of usage. Is U-verse reliable? Maybe I can get them to give me free internet for a year by staying?

Stay with direct TV and they will throw in the internet basically free
Just hope your install goes better than mine (see thread on OT)

I was reading it. It's actually what made me look up the U-verse and see that fiber is available. Directv has been dicks the last few times I've talked to them though and just thinking about a change.

I switched recently from DirecTV to Dish. DirecTV would not match the deal I was getting from Dish (two year price guarantee) so I cancelled them once the install was done. The equipment is far superior compared to DirecTV (I had to replace 3 genies due to hard drive failures). The picture quality is pretty much the same.
My neighbor is a director for DirecTV and he said they are focusing more on the mobile side of things thanks to AT&T.

I'd be pretty tempted to get the fiber. If you call att they will try and get you to switch from direct TV as well and offer some sweet deals
