Speaker Recommendations for 2 channel w/ 8k budget

I have been out of the "speaker game" for the last 11 years, so I feel like I am starting from scratch. I was hoping the board could give me some recommendations on what speakers to put on my list to consider. My budget for the pair is right around 8k. I am open to floor standing as well as bookshelf speakers. Hell, maybe it makes more sense to stick with what I have given my budget.
I have had my B&W Nautilus 802's since 2004. I would like to move to a speaker that has smoother highs but still keeps great resolution, soundstage, and accuracy. My main concern is for two channel music. I would love the board's thoughts. Some details:
Room: 19 x 28. Hardwood floors. Soft furniture in the room along with an area rug. It's an open floor plan though with a large opening to the foyer
Music: 70% Rock
10% Blues
10% Red Dirt Country
10% Pop % Classical
Preamp: McIntosh C2500 for 2 channel music
Processor: McIntosh MX121 for TV, Movies, and multi-channel music
Amps: 2 x McIntosh MC352's and MC7205. (One 352 in bridge mode per front speak

B&W are pretty solid in this category.
Maybe Quad ESL? But at this price point, I'd listen to about a dozen different setups. Gallo, Legacy, just a number of companies out there making speakers in your price range.

I'm a lover of Dynaudio speakers and I'm sure they have something that fits perfectly in your budget. Note, I am not a metal tweeter guy. I find them harsh so speakers like B&W aren't my cup of tea.

DeVore Orangutans sound really good with tubes, so do Merlin VSMs. Probably have to find the O/96 and VSM with BAM used for 8k, but it's worth a look.

Have you demo'd anything with a ribbon tweeter? Some brands to look at could be Salk Sound, Monitor Audio, Legacy Audio. You may also want to look into electrostatic speakers like Martin Logan and Magnepan.

Really like my Definitive Bi polar towers

Have you had the chance to hear them paired with Macs? I've heard they are very picky about what equipment they are paired with. They are on my list. They always seem to be lumped in with Focal and Sonus Faber when I see threads on other boards. The Confidence C2 looks promising. I have Dynaudio speakers in my car btw.

Yep. Back when I was in school, I looked at some Maggies while demoing speakers. 11 years ago, I was looking for a more analytic sound, so went with the 802's. My taste and preference has changed over time. I was talking to a local dealer and he mentioned the Martin Logan Montis and Ethos. Any experience with those models?

The VSM are intriguing. Have you had a chance to demo them? There isn't a dealer even close to me.

I have a friend with a pair, he's the same friend with the Orangutans in his NOLA home. Both are outrageous. Mind boggling how much information comes out of the VSMs. The Orangutans are pushed by some incredible Shindo amps, and they're just beautiful speakers.

With my McIntosh 501 mono blocs, I have driven, over the last 8 years...
...Focal Electras
...Focal Utopias
...DeVore O93
...Magneplanar 1.7
...Sonus Faber Stratavari
...Zu Audio Omen
...Zu Audi Druids
...Magico S5
...Harbeth 40.1
...Quad 2905
...Wilson Sasha
...Vandersteen Model 5
...and I am forgetting a few others
For some reason, I keep going back to the Focal Utopia as my reference. The Berryllium tweeter is second to none. While the Maggie's have a fantastic mid/high, the low end drops off totally at 45 cycles. I don't use subs in 2 channel--ever. So I use the Maggie's when I am on a jazz/female vocal kick.
The DeVores are another fantastic speaker, but their comfort zone, to me, is mated with a 30-50 watt SET amp.
I gotta say, I hate when people at audio shows jump on the new flavor of the month, but Magico is absolutely the tits in loudspeakers. They are, however, not cheap. The S5 were a tad bit small for me, and was waiting for them to come out with the next model up. Well, they finally did a couple months ago--the S7--and it is astounding--just the size I want--but $60k!! Yikes.
You may try the Magico S3 used for $8k--it is well worth a listen.
You looking for new or used?
You can pick up a pair of Focal Alto Utopias for around 8k now.

Usher Audio also uses Berryllium tweeters. They are a speaker that can be driven hard and not break up. They are manufactured in Taiwan (don't let that deter you--the build is first rate).
Also look at Revel Ultimate Studio 2...they always get 5 stars in reviews for bang for the buck. You may be able to get a used pair in that price range. They can friggin rock, while also handling jazz with the delicacy of a 2 way bookshelf. I've always wanted to try a pair in my rig, but they are quite large--a task to get in and out of the house.

And another...Acoustic Zen Adiago--they are a floor standing speaker that always gets great reviews--look for them on AGon used.

Very helpful! I'm actually in the process of selling my two MC352's and moving to MC501'S.
