My Sonos will only play music through the speakers if the TV is showing a black screen. I want to be able to show a football game etc and listen to music through the speakers. What am I doing wrong? Both the TV and remote are "smart", I am not. TIA

Need more info on your setup. What is your Sonos connected to, and what is connected to it?
What are your speakers connected to?
How is your TV connected in this setup?

Connected to a power receiver home theater system. Sonos can play through multiple rooms if that matters. Sonos is connected to my wifi I believe... Sorry this probably is helping and or I am wrong. I'm not home right now. But when I hit Sonos on the remote and it begins to play but when I change over to the cable side, it stops and the game now plays but no music.

My sonos allows me to have the TV on and audio from something else. It auto changes to the TV when I turn it on, but I can change it back through the app. Yours doesn't let you?

Not trying to hijack, but is there a way to listen to local sports(LSU/Saints) on Sonos?

There is a setting on the "room" that enables auto switch to the TV sound when detected. You can either turn that option off, or just switch it back to the music you were playing after you put the game on.

So, if your TV's input and sonos both run through your receiver, you need a receiver capable of "pass-through," or you can run a second input to your TV.

Alternatively, if your TV has any form of audio output that isn't HDMI, you can run that into your receiver and the video straight from that source into the TV.

It's a little hard for me to be more descript with that still. If you post model numbers of the receiver, TV, and at least name the source (hdmi from satellite, cable box, etc), I or someone can probably guide you with a little less vague explanation.

From what it sounds like and guessing based on typical home theatre trends, you have a receiver that won't pass hdmi from a source through to your TV when the analog connection from your Sonos is being output through your receiver. I could be wrong, though, but there should be several easy ways of fixing it, as cheap as in the $0-20 range.

Do you know if your SONOS is connected via analog R/L RCA plugs, or via digital connection (optical or digital coax). if your AVR is capable of assigning inputs, you would connect SONOS via optical or digital coax and assign an input to receive HDMI video from your cable/sattelite STB and audio from the optical or digital coax input you have the SONOS connected to. That's the simplest way. I know how to do this on DENON/Marantz and Onkyo/INTEGRA, both these brands have on screen menus that make this pretty darn easy.
