I'll give the TL; DR version
1. New iPhone - all music did not migrate up
2. Music still lives on my iPad
3. Apple advised me to seek out "third party software"
I need recs for the third party software. TIA tech board gods!

phoneview is cool for a mac, there are a few for windows too, but i cant recall them right now.
Do you not have the itunes library on the computer itself? You could just copy it to the phone.

Relied strictly on iCloud. The OLD desktop I had originally built my iTunes library on back in 06 crashed several years ago and I never backed it up anywhere else - I know, I know. Lesson learned.

My plan is to set up a separate profile on my wife's MacBook then copy the iPad music to it. Apple had told me at that point they will help with getting that music on my new iPhone. Does this sound like the correct plan of action?

if you have a mac and you buy phoneview you just click and drag, no need to make a new profile.
But make sure there isnt any "auto sync" setting turned on on the itunes.

Thanks. But how do I move the music from the iPad to the Mac? Sync the iPad to the Mac?

This is what I used. I had my itunes library on and external drive that crashed. I was able to use this to pull everything off my ipod and phone.
