So my faithful little iPad 2 bit the dust last week...What should I do?

Cliffs: Have had a capable little iPad 2 since getting it as a Christmas Gift in 2011 from my then girlfriend who is now my wife (no pics; this isn't the OT).
It's a 16GB little tank of a tablet that has served me really well. Fell asleep in the bed and when I rolled over, it hit our concrete floors and boom goes the dynamite.
At any rate, since then, my 2007 Sony VAIO laptop has slowed down to octogenarian pace, and I am considering a combination that will allow me to run full MS Office programs with a tablet.
So this is my plan:
1.) Have my friend Amazon the digitizer and tool to repair the front end.
2.) Try to trade the repaired iPad 2 in or sell it outright.
3.) Use the cash/credit to purchase a Surface 3.
My questions: Where can I make the most money on a iPad 2 trade in? Selling it on Craigslist or a FB group? A retail outlet like Best Buy or an Apple Store? Would the Surface 3 be my best bet to combine the laptop/tablet forms and functions?

If you're looking to just do one device, yes.
It's not as slick as the iPad for lean back computing (surfing. harassing OTer's, pictures), but it is a more all-around computer for lean forward functions (work, emails, spreadsheets, etc).

Well, I feel like if I really wanted the most pared back media consumption/surfing/webmail device I could possibly do, I'd go for an iPad Mini 2 refurb from Apple. Playing around with them in the store when I got my iPhone 6 really had me realizing the form factor was perfect for what I did with a tablet.
But as I said, I need a more robust device that can run MS Office for light-work-related functions at home. I feel like the Surface 3 is the best of both worlds.

Agreed, but after having both for awhile, I still use the iPad for just surfing.
Having to pick one though, it would be the Surface.

Gazelle would only offer $70 for a iPad2
