Looking to get a smart band/watch. What is the best one for both general and sports use?

Have they come up with something that is truly waterproof yet? Is something better coming soon and should I wait?

It completely depends on what you want to use it for. Garmin makes a ton of very quality devices in the $100-$150 range.

I have a TomTom multisport watch. Its not flashy and does what it says it will. I can display distance, elapsed time, pace, etc for both running and riding my bike. Then you upload everything to the TomTom website and it'll display your route. Some of the Garmin watches in this price range look like computers on your wrist, I liked the simplicity of it and got a really good deal on it from Amazon.

If I'd have had the cash at the time, I'd have bought a Suunto Ambit 3. A guy I work with has one and it is fantastic, and the response time is really sharp. For example, when I'm on the bike, my current speed is very laggy when using the GPS. It'll take 10-15 seconds to recalulate the instantaneous speed. Hit Ambit is almost instanteaous. Using GPS you'll always have a slight lag. Also, my watch has bluetooth connectivity, where the Suunto has ANT+, which is the standard wireless comm system for most heartrate monitors, bike sensors, etc. The Suunto has a true multisport mode, so if you get into biathlons etc, you done have to change modes when you get out of the water/ on the bike/ on the road. You can also spend a little more money and get the sapphire glass too, which means that damn thing will probably outlast you. Its a damn fine device.

I don't see a lot of advantage for the fitbit bands. You don't get any relevant real time data, and what it tracks your phone should already do for you.

Smart Watches and Fitness Bands are two very different device categories.

I just got my Pebble Time Steel. It's waterproof up to 50 meters. I don't plan on doing any diving, so it's great for showers and dips in the pool.

The Garmin Vivosmart is waterproof, and has been good.

However, the small screen in the device is starting to become screwed up, where the top and bottom cannot be read. Kinda sucks.

Next smart wrist device I buy will be a 2nd Gen Apple Watch

I've got the Microsoft Band. Wife gave it to me as a gift last Christmas. Not perfect but works for me because I like being able to read texts off it and respond with short replies, and see who is emailing and calling me, without having to dig out my phone. As a fitness watch, it links with my fitness apps. I use it as my primary alarm, as the buzz on the wrist it wakes me with is much gentler than music blaring from an alarm clock. Sometimes the pause feature of the GPS watch does not work when running, and I wish it were waterproof, but again I am happy enough with it until the next generation Band or Apple Watch.

I was this close to pulling the trigger on tAppleWatch last week but finally talked myself into waiting for the second gen model. Spending $700 on a watch, I'd be pissed of within a year they drop some new holy grail version of what I just paid out the arse for.

Moto 360 2 comes out in about 10 days. They have a sport version that is supposed to be awesome. I'm. Looking into getting the normal one though.

I've had the original moto 360 since last October, but will definitely be picking up a sport version of the moto 2 when it comes out. I have really enjoyed the 360 more than I thought I would, if you sit in a lot of meetings, it is really nice to be able to see emails and messages without having to pull out your phone.

Get the Garmin Fenix 3. It crushes the shite out of anything else on the market.

It's a big watch but it does everything + waterproof. I swim in it, I shower in it.
