I have a vision smart TV that would stream anything. After hours of adjusting settings, I went to best buy and bought a WiFi booster and placed it about 5 ft from the TV, and it works perfectly.
Apparently TV wifi receptions are very weak and must have a perfect signal.

Ive got a Samsung smart TV on wifi. Ive never had an issue other than Netflix every once in a while saying that it cant load a video at that time. All other streaming apps will work but netflix during those times. And the app works, just wont load videos.

I have Netflix and play it on a variety of devices. Netflix when set in best quality mode can use as much as 7.5 Mb/s, but only uses 2-3 Mb/s in medium quality. And I have also been able to play it at around 1Mb/s on my Laptop sharing my internet connection from my Cellphone. I would suggest that you check your accounts page for the quality settings and reduce it and see if it loads better. You can either say low/medium/auto quality (neither of which reduce the resolution of the video) but reduce the quality of video and audio reproduction (may switch out 5.1 to 2.1). How this quality is impacted is not very easily explained - but at times you might see larger number of boxes sharing same colors, shades of black bulked together and audio channel down sampling etc., and is often hard to tell for an untrained eye. I once streamed Netflix on a flight from Bay area to midwest on United - yes, I know they do not support streaming content, but trust me there are ways to do it and it works just fine :). There was only one other user on the flight on my access point at that time, and there was plenty of bandwidth to go around.

Didnt work on a brand new samsung 4k tv. Had to get them to log into the tv and do some type of update to get it to work. Saw on the net that many people had the same problem.

The exception to smart TVs in my experience is the Roku TV. Hardware isn't latest and greatest, but it's serviceable. The app is great it's because the TV company didn't create it. They let Roku control the app development. It's very nice.

I have a 55" TCL Roku TV. No problems whatsoever. When I first got it I had to log in to the Internet a couple times, but it eventually resolved itself. It has rendered my Apple TV to being a dust collector that I take outside to plug into that TV to watch sports in hd.

When you can prime a firestick from Amazon for $39 and add tvmc to it, why would anyone still use smart tv apps or blue ray players for wifi/apps?

Those can still be a bit slow at times so I would spend the extra $30 to $60 to get a Roku 3 or Fire Tv. The faster processor is worth the extra bucks.
Plus, the voice search is a cool feature that actually works. Although with The Fire, it only searches Amazon content.

I think this is due to bad internet or routers most of the time. I have fire tv in the living room and sticks in the bedrooms and gameroom and don't have any issues, but I also have a 100Mbs internet connection and a couple of good dual band routers. My buddy couldn't get the stick to work well and had to go Fire TV because he had a shitty wifi router and needed a wired connection.

The Smart TVs are horrible for the simple fact that the TV companies do not invest squat in their application departments. How the hell does a 2015 TV not come with WatchESPN and HBO out the box?
