I am transitioning some of my rental homes into executive rentals (airbnb, vrbo, etc.) and am looking for ways to keep the power bill really low since they are empty 5 - 15 days a month.

Going to get a WIFI Thermostat obviously...

I'm looking into this gadget that can turn off your water heater when you are not around. but I can't find any reviews on it which makes me nervous.

What other things can you personally recommend for a house that will be empty much of the year?

I can't justify the cost of throwing away a working water heater though.

Out of curiosity, how did it impact your power bill?

CIA can use them to spy on you. Other than that, they're pretty cool. Don't know if I would put them in a rental though

House isn't finished yet, but the people I have talked too have been happy with the savings and performance. Hope the nest thermostat will help also.

Smart outlets for the appliances and TV

Could do a motion sensor to cut them all on and working like normal when there is enough traffic and turn them all off and essentially not functional when there has been no movement longer than set time.

Which brand of tankless did you get? I purchased an ECO smart 27 which should cover the whole house. A lot of plumbers are leery about them but I decided to give it a shot. Don't know how well it will work yet since we're still in the rebuilding process.

Stiebel Eltron Tempra whole house. Hopefully it is as good as the reviews say. Looked at these things for weeks before finally deciding on one.
