We seem to have a Waze App thread pop up from time to time on here so I figured I would share a anecdote from my experience today:

I mark myself because the point of running radar is to slow speeders down. I bet he slowed down when Waze warned him of my spot. I usually take a pic of the direction I'm facing. People that click the picture linked to my cop alert figure it out usually because you can see the decal on my hood and the radar display in the pic. I do this so that when the locals see my alerts for wrecks, road closures, and the occasional move over because I'm blocking a major highway lane for a good reason they think oh that guy is legit. They lead the heard mentality. I have found IT WORKS.

ETA: I would like to meet that guy and talk him into a name change.

So do you just hate running radar and enjoy sitting on the side of the highway? I'm glad you're not wasting time busting people going 70, but I just don't understand why you'd spend time parked on the side of the road.

A deterrent is a deterrent with or without the 200 dollar fine

Bingo. That and the shift was shorthanded so I was called in. We stay available for calls when we are shorthanded. Spent most of my day on thefts, domestics, and a wreck that shut down a state road for about an hour.

Your response to the guy should have been to stop messaging through Waze while driving.

So what does a cop do sitting on the side of the highway not running radar? I run a V1 detector and I'll often pass by a cop sitting there with no radar running. Is the point just to be visible? Do you pull people over without having a radar reading on them because you can tell they are way over the limit?

Cops here love to work the shady stretch of the parkway with nice wide shoulders. Now, you could drive 50 over and be safe there, and there are never any accidents on that stretch, but that is where they love to work.

Meanwhile, people are ripping through neighborhoods and running redlights and crashing at major intersections, and you never see a cop there unless to work a wreck.

So when they try to tell me their traffic enforcement efforts are about safety, I call bullshite.
