I know that people like to rip on Bose, and I realize that there are better systems, but here is where I am.

I went to Best Buy to look at the Sonos systems before I ordered them elsewhere. While I was there, I noticed the Bose Soundtouch system. Its essentially the same deal as Sonos - wireless, connects to music library via app, etc. I thought the sound quality in store was not even close - Bose blew the Sonos away.

My wife is a teacher, and Bose gives a 15% discount, which makes the Bose Soundtouch cheaper than the Sonos. My only hesitation is that adding Soundtouch capabilities to built in systems is significantly more expensive ($700 vs. $300) than the Sonos, but that includes a cool wall controller, which Sonos doesn't have.

Honestly, I have a Sony Soundbar with Wireless Sub. I programmed my Logitech Harmony Smart-Remote with a custom action called "Listen to Bluetooth Music."

It cuts the BT on on my Soundbar, switches the Sound on the TV to mute-if its on at all-and connects to my iPhone if I've enabled BT at that point.

Bingo bango boingo I've got my entire music collection at my fingertips being routed through my Soundbar which is fantastic.

While I haven't given the Bose a listen, I've heard Sonos, and I've looked at the prices for both. Compared to what I just explained for my setup, they both seem-and sound if you'll pardon the pun-like total ripoffs.

I have a sonos play 5 and it sounds great. I do think Bose gets a bad rap but I've also heard Bose accused of adding higher quality speakers and additional speakers to their "stages" in stores... so be weary of that. It'll make it sound better in store than when you bring it home.

It's really all about what you're comfortable spending and if it sounds good to you. Outside of that, who cares what some dumb audiophile thinks. If it sounds good to your ear - frick everyone else.

First, I'd continue research. I highly doubt that it a normal setup Bose would blow Sonos away in anything. It's entirely possible that in a fair contest you like the Bose better or that it sounds better to you, but I'd be hesitant to draw that conclusion at Best Buy.

Second, I'm sure the Bose system is good and if it is cheaper, cool. I can't imagine using that wall controller very much IRL, however, so I certainly wouldn't pay more for it.

No highs, no lows? Must be Bose.

Seriously - Bose is so overpriced, they've driven the market to overprice. People equate "price" with "quality" - see "Beats by Dre(tm)", et al.

Bose has some good offerings, no question, but not nearly worth the premiums they charge.

That little wall controller is going away soon so if you want it buy it this year. Bose makes some great sounding stuff but they also miss on some. I'm not a fan of the app and set up should be easier for an end user.
