Having the common problem where my PS3 won't read any discs (games or movies). A quick Google search shows this is happening to a shitload of other playstations as well. These bastards are trying to charge me $100 to fix this.

frick Sony & frick Playstation.

That is all....

i don't really play video games anymore. When the little cousins & godchildren come thru, I want it to work

Plus it's the only blue-Ray player on this specific TV.

Eta: I'd actually like to hop on MW3 at some point

I remember when this would happen to PS2's and you could open it up and adjust the laser height. Did it myself and it surprisingly worked.

more than likely it is the blueray player. easy fix. you can order it for like $40 and it is a quick fix.

I still have an original 60gb PS3 from 2006 that still works like a champ. I have another that was bought in 2008 and never had a problem out of it either. Maybe if you took better care of your stuff and didn't let the god children and lil cuz's mess with it and you actually swap out games for them and make sure they turn it off when done with it yours might still be working.

Seeing as it appears to be a widespread problem, this probably won't solve your issue, but when my XB1 wouldn't read any discs I got one of those "Blu Ray laser cleaner" discs and ran it for a few minutes. My console works perfectly fine again now.

I did just build a house and the torn up, muddy yard + my dogs caused enough dust to get into the consol to coat the laser apparently. May be worth a shot to try on your PS3 as it could just be dust covered or something.

Do you pay someone to fix your car when it's out of warranty?

Oh really??

I had the EXACT same problem (wouldn't read any disc) and the exact same "resolution". Mine was 1 year and 2 months old. Sony said dgaf send it to us and pay us more money. I had already spent > $500 on the playstation so I was like no way. (looked in to fixing it myself but they used like 3 different laser readers in the PS so if you got the wrong one it wouldn't work and you would have to order a different one, frick all that.)

Swore off Sony that day and haven't bought a Sony product since. Being a techy I feel like they have lost out on some of my money.

Screw Sony. My XBOX works great.
