Saving Root when updating?

My contract is up at the end of July, but I wanted to update my Sprint Galaxy S3 to stock Kit Kat now. The Kit Kat update has been sitting on my phone for a week or 2, but I haven't installed it because I can't take a chance at permanently loosing root.
I looked at rootkeeper, but it says that it doesn't work for 4.3 which I'm on now. I initially rooted with saferoot which is probably the best method out there, but doesn't look like Saferoot can be used with 4.4.2. Do I have any other options to either save root or easily root 4.4.2

You can root 4.4.2. I have done it on our nexus devices. This is a prime example of why having a bastardized version of android sucks.

XDA in the forum for your device is your best bet for these type of specific device/version questions. You may not find someone here with the same scenario as you. On XDA there are usually hundreds of people in the same situation as you who can answer for your specific device better than anyone here.

XDA is great. I still find myself there sometimes, but I don't even remember my user name there and it's so spread out with information that it can be difficult to find something specific sometimes if you don't participate or at at least lurk regularly there. For example I haven't seen any Saferoot specific thread on the Sprint Galaxy S3 board. It took a decent amount of digging around other places to find out about it and connect it to different phones and versions.
