Did a partial rebuild/upgrade of PC without moving a 2 TB drive over from my previous build immediately.

Finally got around to hooking it up to my new system and it isn't detected by BIOS.

I've tried swatching SATA & power cables from other drives that do work without luck.

Any ideas/suggestions? I ordered an external enclosure that doesn't get here til Monday to see if it can read that way. Went ahead and ordered a bigger replacement drive (4TB) and had my files backed up but would like to get this one working again.

Clarify two things:
1) did you try it on a port that definitely works on the motherboard (a DOA SATA wouldn't be the most surprising thing ever, and sometimes the drives and ports just don't play nice)
2) did you try the drive in another system to confirm it is still recognized elsewhere?

If you can't get it to work on an older, known to be functioning system, fixing it or recovering data is far out of my league.

If an old system isn't available, perhaps try a USB toaster-style drive as a substitute.

I'd have suggested a USB to IDE/SATA cable/adapter. It's actually a handy device to have around. Think you're on the right track for the time being.

So I ended up ordering a 4 TB replacement/upgrade forthe drive just because. I got around to installing it this morning, so Iunplugged all of my functioning SATA drives (power and data) so I could re do my cable management when I installed the SSD's plus my new 4 TB.

Long story short, 3 out of my 4 hard drives died today. Took it into Fry's to get them to test it with their equipment and the problem was that I used a Corsair SATA power cable in my Thermaltake power supply. Either the cable was faulty or the brands are incompatible, because they used it to hook up my DVD drive and it died.

Anyone heard of this? Can I not use a SATA power cable from a corsair kit on a thermaltake power supply?

I suppose there could be incompatibilities, but if there were, I think your drives would have died right away instead of working for some time. I'd actually be rather shocked (pun intended) if the PSU ends were identical but wired differently; that said, I'd trust, but verify. Since Fry's apparently tried your cable on their PSU, my money is on the cable going bad.

I think the issue is that I had 1 compatible cable and 1 Corsair cable... and to this point, I had been lucky in that all of my SSD's were on thecompatible one. I plugged in bad Corsair cable to install my old 2 TB and thought hte drive was dead so left things where they were.

Ordered a 4 TB drive to replace 2 TB, and decided to unhook all of my SSD's (power and data) so that I could be nice, neat and tidy installing everything.

Tested them all on the bad cable and killed everything. One for some reason surivved.

Expensive lesson learned: Only use the power cables that come with your PSU. Same pins didn't mean shite in this situation. At very least, stay within your PSU's manufacturer for new cables.

I don't have much constructive to add, but I will say I've definitely used generic cables with Corsair power supplies before and not had any problems.
