I live in a very very rural area (60-80 miles from a broadcast towers) and I recently bought a 150+ mile rotating antenna but I can still only reliably get 3-4 channels. (The max I can get in my area is about 20).

If I can finally find another channel by rotating the antenna the next day it will be gone...it's that fickle. The weather changes and the channel is gone. I have the antenna atop a pole on my roof with a clear 360 degree view, probably 20-25 ft.

my question is what can I do to get better reception? Do I need a different antenna? What would y'all recommend?

Get your antenna as high off the ground -- and as clear of any obstruction to the stations you want to receive -- as possible. Rohn 25G tower sections used to be cheap and ubiquitous, but thanks to litigious legal types, you get to open your wallet now to get that antenna 50+ feet above your house. At 60-80 miles away from broadcast towers, you'll need the height.

get a good antenna, good tower with rotor, - it is a one time cost - never look back

Get a basic satellite or cable package. It's the price you pay to live in your bucolic paradise.

I already have DirectTV, it's more for local weather channels and storms when the satellite is out.
