I want to get a new phone that I can root. Should I go with Nexus 5 or a Google Pixel.

Are you going through Verizon or direct from Google. I have a post outlining the steps I took to root my Verizon Pixel XL a couple of weeks ago. You have to be sure to unlock the bootloader using depixel8 before installing any updates. Since unlocking the bootloader does a factory reset, I recommend doing it before setting up too much.

why do you want to root? Pixels and Nexus really dont need rooting unless you want different kernals and builds.

I'm assuming you mean Nexus 5x. Pixel is definitely the better phone. I have the Nexus 5x and love it but since a good bit of people are having trouble with it, I'd opt for the pixel. If you are considering the pixel, why not the 6p instead of the 5x? Size?

Anyway, rooting is simple. There are toolkits that can do it without effort in your part. Things like wugfresh.
