Ring seems to be in the disrupt mood. Looks like they are putting out a security system that will be $10 a month or $100 a year. That's a considerable savings over monthly standard security systems. This includes LTE cellular service to the station to call Ring in the event of a break in. Be interested to see how well it works, at $200. I may get it and give it a test. Sell it on eBay if necessary. I already pay monthly for the a doorbell and two cameras, this will just add $10 to my cost a year if I keep it because the $100 a year for the system includes unlimited camera cloud storage.

They also put out a PoE doorbell that requires professional installation. It's a lot pricier than the doorbell pro though. Wonder if they will start transitioning some of the outdoor cameras to PoE as well.

I mentioned in one of the other security threads here Ring was about to make noise in the industry.

The POE version is the Ring Elite. One of my coworkers has had one for about 3 months now. Thing works great. When he first got it it only got power from POE and the network still had to be wifi, they fixed that now which makes sense. It's a real nice piece.

Yeah my ADS is about $25-30 a month. This would pay for itself in a year. I could completely kill off my lan line that only supports ADS now and save a bit there too.

Good to hear about the elite, probably would replace my pro with it and sell my floodlights and get two PoE floodlights and two spotlights if they offered PoE versions and got cloud storage for all 4 with my security system. This makes the cloud storage fee perfectly reasonable when you throw in the security system.

I have a regular security system not monitored, does this tie into and expand upon it?

No, you will have to completely replace it with ring's equipment and it will be a monitored system.

We still don't know who is doing the monitoring or if/how it will integrate with home automation. I know Zwave got UL listing for intrusion recently but if you have ever install 20+ Zwave devices in a bigger house you would be hesitant to use Zwave for security. Plus we aren't sure if it will montior life safety devices and I'm not a fan of having internet connection as my only means of communication. But the monthly fee is cheap for what you get and the cost of the equipment is fair.

GoControl is also coming with a product for the Best Buy retail space. It's basically a 2gig GC2 with a Smartthings hub built in. The montoring will be through ADT though.

Dam if you buy an Elite make sure you have a single gang space for it to go in.

Ring is getting sued by ADT, they cancelled my protect order and gave me a $50 off camera or doorbell coupon and a $100 off protect if they win the lawsuit.
