Ring Doorbell questions
Posted by Kramer26 on 7/24/17 at 9:17 am10
I'm thinking about getting a ring doorbell. I see there are 2 different kinds: regular and pro. The pro is more expensive but has 1080p video vs 720p with the regular. Reading some reviews on Amazon it appears some people are having trouble with the night vision on the pro. Not sure if the pro still has some bugs that need to get worked out. I wanted to get feedback from people who have either model on the pros and cons of the device. I plan to hard wire it into my existing doorbell.

Pro is 100% better than the original. Better picture and far better motion settings. That being said, they just released Ring doorbell 2 which has 1080p and a removable battery. I would look into that one or the pro since you don't need the battery.

Pro is much smaller and I have not had any issues with it, night vision or otherwise. Customer service will hook you up to, if you call them up.

Like mentioned above, get the Pro...it's the second version and MUCH better. I just installed mine at my house a few weeks ago and it's awesome. 1080p resolution, hardwired to existing doorbell, can live view remotely from smartphone, and their customer service has been incredible.
One thing to note when installing it. If your existing transformer is a 16v 10vac, you will need to change it because it won't provide enough power to power up the doorbell. I bought the Nutone 16v 30vac and it worked perfectly. Wish I would have known this from the beginning, it would have saved me a lot of time and effort.

As a high jack, my football is on the wall perpendicular to the door (essentially the door has a small porch/entry way). I've put off installing a ring doorbell because it seems like I wouldn't get much line of sight since it would point to the wall across from it. Is there a mounting option what would let me tilt the thing 45 degrees so it points more out from the door?

Yes, they make 15 degree angle brackets that you can stack together.

I'm in same scenario, mich better vision than you'd think, and ultimately, too wide of a range is just going to cause constant alerts so I think this is perfect. Especially with my garage door keypad right there.

That's why they have the motion zones. I don't include the road in front of my house so I don't get alerts every time someone passes my house. Just the second someone enters my yard.

I just got a ring pro and installed it on Sunday. I love it. Super easy to install as well.

The ring doorbell sucks for me. The ups driver is half way back to the truck before the ring starts recording. I regret not just buying a camera that recorded 24/7.

Is this the regular or the pro? Did you set your motion zones? Mine actually picks up movement and starts recording BEFORE they even enter the zone. You may have a defective unit.

You either didn't set yours up right or didn't set your motion settings right or you have a defective unit. The ring pro immediately starts recording the instant it detects motion. I get notified on my phone while I'm backing into my garag before my vehicle even stops. It also starts recording us when returning home from a walk when we are still on the sidewalk in front of the house.

Are you sure you aren't talking about the live video? I can see the delay if you are trying to view it live. Viewing the recording should give you a bit before the motion is detected.

Only the pro captures video before the motion.

Ah, yeah I never paid attention to the first model.
