Never fooled with a raspberry pi, is it terribly difficult setting all this up? You can get a preconfigured rp3 with RetroPie and a controller for under 100 on amazon/ebay.
Worth not having to set it up myself?

I am running recalbox on a raspberry pi 3. It was really easy to set up. I think retropie is pretty much the same thing. The set up involves formatting and coping files to an SD card. It is up to you to decide if that is worth the extra cost.

Its very easy to do it yourself. Complete kit is around 50 bucks total.
You can download all the roms as well depending on what you want to play. If you really dont want the hassle, then shell out the extra 50 bucks because that is what they are charging for.

I just made a system to give my kids for Christmas. The rate limiting step for me was downloading everything to my ancient laptop. The Retropie website hates slow downloads and will time out.
I bought everything on Amazon. I'm about $81 into it with the Raspberry pi, case, two controllers, power cord and micro sd.

What gaming system do you want to use most? Just search amazon for usb gaming nes/snes, or whatever you want. Cheap

I went with SNES USB controllers. I'll probably buy some other ones with joysticks though because the SNES ones don't work well with n64 games.
