Radar detectors

Do you guys recommend radar detectors. I've been looking at the classic Valentine 1 and the new escorts.
At first glance they seem like they would be worth it but the more I read on random forums I end up changing my mind. I have a very long road trip coming up and I'm prone to get tickets for 8-9mph

ive found that the arrows are really nice. I think there is an escort radar that has the arrows now, if so, that is prob the one I would get.

The V1 takes time to understand. I also have a laser jammer. I still get hit with instant-on half of the time. I also use Waze on long trips. With those three combined, I have still gotten a ticket.
If you speed regularly, I'd say spend the money. I don't drive less than 85 on the interstate unless I'm forced to, so everything helps me

The Redline is great, but is very noisy on K-band with all the K-band pollution from things like blind-spot monitors, automated cruise, lane assist, etc. The Redline rocks on Ka-band, but its a shame the Escort has not updated it and has moved on with it's Max lineup instead.
While the Escort Max 2 and Max 360 (has arrows) might not have the range on Ka-band like the Redline, it is worlds better at filtering out the K-band pollution mentioned above. It also has GPS to lock out door openers at Walmart.
The Valentine 1 is still great and does well at filtering out K-band pollution but has an antiquated design and requires a smartphone to run apps like YaV1 to utilize the advanced features of the V1 as well as K-band door opener lockouts.
Another option that has great bang for the buck is the Uniden lineup such the new DFR series. The DFR7 can be had for $299 and has GPS and keeps up with brands that cost twice as much on Ka-band

Thanks grif. With all the band pollution and the use of laser now are these things even worth it though. Or is it just a false sense of security?

IMHO, they are definitely worth it if you speed all of the time. It takes a little time to figure them out, but if you just jump in a car with one and expect everything to be kosher, you're gonna be jamming your brakes all of the time and probably still getting tickets.
You're still gonna get laser tickets, and you're still gonna get instant-on tickets. To stop some of that, use Waze also. People update the app correctly on major interstates about 3/4 of the time

Still worth it. I was saved from instant on earlier this week by my V1. I was traveling I-49 at 4:30am so there was not much traffic on the road. I was using Waze but it wasn't accurate that early in the morning. I get a small Ka alert. Then I get another 10 seconds later. So I slow to the speed limit and over the next overpass was a Carencro cop, lights out, using instant on. He blasted me once I crested the overpass. My V1 gave me at least a 3/4 mile heads up that the cop was on the other side of that overpass.
