I've had an old iphone 4 for a few years that was so out of date I needed to get something else. So yesterday I bought a first gen Moto X from a guy online. Met him at his house, seemed like a good dude, no issues with the new phone.

Soo..after I got it I went to the AT&T store since the SIM cards were different sizes. They got me a new one, transfered over my contacts and my service, and I'm on my way with no problems. Well, I now realize that for some reason, texts are still going through to the old iphone. I even took the SIM card out of it, and it still happens. I'll text someone from the new phone, and their response will go to the iphone.

How does this happen? What can be done?

2) I started downloading some of the old apps I had on the iphone. Basic, popular apps, like scorecenter, shazam, facebook, uber, etc. Every app I try to download it has a laundry list of pretty appaling things I have to give it access to. If they want to see my name and email, ok fine whatever. But some of the things listed were things like:

-can make purchases on your behalf
-can adjust your phone settings and controls
-access to your texts, call history, photos, address book, etc
-can access the microphone and record at any time

I mean what the frick? Is this a new thing or something? I don't ever remember apps saying stuff like that before.

I'm sure it has something to do with imessage with apple... I don't know how to turn it off, but Google is your friend.

I don't remember how so you'll need to google it but my wife's phone was good to go within about 6 hours of whatever it was we did.

Is it texts from other iphones or ipads? Probably iMessage. It doesn't actually go through as a "text" but more like the old Blackberry Messenger where it is more like an instant messaging system. Is the old iPhone still connected to WiFi? That's probably it. Go to your Settings on the iphone, and it is Settings > Messages and from there turn off iMessage. There should also be an option called Send & Receive in that same menu. It may say 2 addresses, 3 addresses, etc. Mine has my phone number and my email address that is linked to my iTunes account. You can clear those out as well, but turning off the iMessage should do it.

Good deal, thanks. I'll turn off everythign and just put it in a drawer. I also noticed last night though that I was still receiving snapchats to the old phone which was pretty confusing.

If the old phone is still connected to wifi, then all of your apps will still work.

I'm such a ruhtard when it comes to this stuff. I turned off wifi, turned off imessage, turned off basically everything I can think of. Hopefully there's no more issues now.

Easiest thing to do is to turn off the power.

Yeah I did. I don't expect to turn it on again, it looks like everything is up and running smoothly towards the current phone now. Thanks.

I have another stupid question that will be too plebeian for most of you, but figured I'll ask anyway. I'll put it way at the bottom so if you're ready to move on you can back out now. If you want a good laugh today or feel like helping a dolt like myself you can read on.

My old phone was in iphone 4 like I said, the current one is a first gen moto x. In the group texts that I used to be in, this morning when people were texting in it, I can't see any of the texts that I presume are from iphones. It's a group with like 8 people in it and I can only see 1 person's texts. I realize WHY this is happening I guess (imessage) but is there a simple way to fix this?

just shooting from the hip

how about turning off the old phone? for starters, but most likely call your service provider.

my inbound messages were blocked on mine by accident
and they fixed it jiffy quick.

The way IMessage works is that it redirects incoming txts from your phone carrier, and sends it through the internet to your phone. It's a seamless transition. When you are using an Iphone you don't even notice the difference. 6 years ago or so, it was a great idea. People didn't have unlimited txts, so messages from one Iphone to another didn't count towards your txt limit. Now that everyone has unlimited txt, but not unlimited data, it's costing people data usage, and in my opinion, is almost used as a scare tactic/hostage tactic to keep people from switching from ipone to android.

Once you turn off the Imessage feature, it takes a little while for apple's servers to update and get your txts going in the right direction. The good thing is that you still have your old iphone and can read the incoming txts. A lot of times, people buy an android after breaking their iphone or turning it in to their work, and totally miss out on the txts.
