I offered the idea to my boss that he could use a hotspot with chromecast on campus to watch the other games/LSU game tailgating. He liked the idea and we have business hotspots. i told him I would look into it and see if it would be worth it. Anyone have any experience with this/ Vorizon internet on campus..

Or a better solution thats not a dish?

TIA

Bring a laptop and/or tablet and connect it straight to the TV and stream the intrawebs with the hotspot.

If you don't want to haul a laptop or tablet, Chromecast is your best bet

i would not trust the stability of a cell connection to provide video IMO

bring an antenna and you can catch a few of the big games as a backup

your verizon internet won't be consistent during the game, i can almost guarantee that (as a verizon user who attends games)

HD antenna will work just fine, indeed.

I use a chromecast every week. Works great. Zero problems with bandwidth or streaming.

Streaming over a cell connection will always be problematic on game day. The towers are way overloaded.

I repeat, every gameday I stream using cellular network. Every gameday. Zero issues.

Verizon. Fayetteville and Little Rock.

Back me up CAD.

How is that? They use the same frequencies as phones for data correct?

I turn the hotspot on my phone, connect my ipad to the hotspot connect the chrome cast to the hotspot, stream from the ipad to the chromecast. My Chromecast actually plugs into a surround sound system and then it goes to the tv.

Zero issues. Takes five minutes to have gameday on. I saw a got take two hours Saturday to get a signal with his directv.

That's pretty sweet then, I always assumed the cell towers would be too congested to work well. We usually use directv and yes it can be a pain sometimes to get that thing situated just right. There's usually a smart directv worker that goes around to all the tailgates to help for a price. Pure genius right there.

Well Arkansas isn't Baton Rouge

My phone will work all day pretty well browsing the internet but when campus gets crowded close to game time, it is very slow and hit or miss

Anyone know how many GB's of data one would consume streaming using hotspot for say 1hr? A whole game? A whole day?

I streamed from 1030-225, used just over 3.5gb. I took advantage of Verizon's latest promotion and went from 12gb to 30gb, so I'm good to go.
