I recently have began to experience speed issues with my wireless internet. I pay to get 30 MBPS and can get that speed when I directly hardwire to the modem.(brand new modem) I can only get around 10-12 MBPS through my router. Thinking my router was the issue I went and purchased a 1GB download ASUS router that was $150. After hooking up the router and updating it's firmware I still can not get the optimal speed through wireless. I have even went as far as to download a wifi analyzer to my PC to check the most used channels and change to another less used channel. I changed to multiple channels over 2.4 ghz and 5ghz with no change whatsoever in speed. The speed will start out very fast on the speed test and peak around 25MBPS and then drop quickly to around 10-12. I have called the cable company I receive service from and they have done all they can do to help. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

have you tried running speedtest from multiple devices?

my old laptop gets 10-12mb but all my phones are getting 75+ mbps

Ive tried on my iphone, ipad, and laptops. I really began to notice when I could no longer stream Netflix or Amazon Video in 4K. This problem only started about 2 weeks ago, before that I was able to stream all the 4K I ever wanted to.

Do you get the speed you are looking for when directly plugged in to the router? If you are seeing the same issue over Ethernet, you can be pretty certain it's not actually the WiFi causing the issue.

That said the 2.4GHz spectrum is extremely susceptible to all sorts of interference. CCI from neighboring WiFi, Microwaves, baby monitors (audio and video), security cameras, home phones, etc. Do you have the 2.4 and 5GHz bands named differently so you know which spectrum you are connected to?

I split out mine at home and connect exclusively to 5GHz, save 1 or 2 legacy devices that need 2.4.

Have an AC enabled device and check the speed right beside the router. Try moving the router to other spots in the house.

I believe the 2.4Ghz channels are 1,6,11 that are the best and all for 5Ghz.

I get the exact same speed drop when hardwired to the router. I recently have had a few new neighbors in the area, don't know if their new routers are clogging up the channels or not.

call cox/comcast and have them come out and see if the coax signal has degraded

If you get the same drop when plugged into the router you can be fairly sure it's not WiFi interference but something more upstream. Maybe the modem isn't working great or they oversubscribed the node. If you just had neighbors move in they may have sold more than the node can handle. Do you have an older modem? If it's not DOCSIS 3.0 the lack of channel bonding may be slowing you down. As somebody else said have them check the Coax signal as well.

It is a brand new 3.0 modem.

I have had multiple technicians come out to my house to check but they "assure" me that the coax in good working order and all the levels are optimal. I just cant understand why my speed and latency is perfect when I hardwire to the modem but my router speed is complete shite even though it is a brand new high speed router.
