Opened a file using the wrong program

My brother downloaded a firmware zip file for his soundbar. Instead of leaving it as the file should be, he chose acrobat. Now the Soundbar won't update because it can't read the file in acrobat. We cleared the USB and downloaded it again, and it wants to open automatically in acrobat. So how do I get the file to stay in its original extension instead of automatically opening in pdf?

Right click on the file and select open with. Choose winzip or some other available utility.

Did he chose "save as pdf" or did he rename the file after downloading it?
Open windows file explorer, click on the view tab, select detail and make sure the "File name extensions" box is checked. If the file name ends in .pdf, the you need to rename it to .zip. If it is already .zip, then you need to re-associate the type of file .zip is.
